How to plant your first garden

Nothing tastes better than homegrown fruits & vegetables.

Things You'll Need:

  • Rake
  • Garden Trowel
  • Shovels
  • Seeds
  • Watering Can

  1. Plan. Find a spot for your garden. It should be a place that gets both sunlight and shade. Fence it off to keep people and pets out of the area. Plan what you will plant, and go buy the seeds in advance. Plan for when will they bud. And finally, don’t forget to sketch a little map of where each plant is located in the garden.
  2. Prepare the soil. Dig up the dirt about 2 feet down. Add compost and mix it into your dirt. After you've prepared the soil and raked it smooth use a trowel to make a hole for each plant. This part can include a lot of labor and might be worth the extra bucks to hire some lawn help.
  3. Plant. Begin planting at the back of the garden so you don’t step all over the plants you've just put into the ground. Drop the seed into the prepared hole. Push the soil into place. Plant in the early morning or late afternoon hours to prevent roots from drying out.
  4. Water. Water the newly planted garden immediately after you've finished planting the entire bed. Use a hose at low volume or a watering can. Water every other day.
  5. Watch. Watch your garden grow & enjoy!
