When the rain began to fall, I was especially impressed with the way the men covered the furniture with quilted blankets as they moved the pieces from the truck to the covered front porch, before removing the blankets and taking the furniture into the house. I had booked the crew for three hours, but they were so efficient they completed the move in just over two hours. Paying them for three hours was not a problem for me, as Witmer's Moving and More exceeded my expectations and the extra payment served as a well-deserved tip for great service! Scott R. The start time for the job was "between 12 and 1 PM." Witmer's accepted under these terms. The next morning they called and said they could not be there until "around 2 PM." I told them OK, and that I would be starting to unloa…read mored the truck when I got to the house. At 2:30, the day of the move, I called and asked when they would be there and they said "between 3 and 3:30." They arrived promptly at 3:30 (two and a half hours after the original "start time.") I will say, the workers were quick and efficient. They handled our belongings carefully and placed everything where we wanted it. Because I had unloaded a great deal of the items myself prior to their arrival, they worked for only one hour before the job was complete. When the job was finished, I calle Hire-a-Helper and told them about the last arrival and asked if I could release payment for one hour. I was told I would have to fill out the on-line dispute form, which I did. The next day I got an email from Witmer's that insisted that since their late arrival was a result of their morning job taking longer than planned and they ran into bad weather driving from the morning job to mine, and since "You could have gave us more work to fill the time, but regardless you need to pay the two hours because it was your choice to not give us more work..." that I should pay them for the 2 hour minimum booking time Hireahelper.com has. The letter concludes." I expect to get paid TODAY!" Hireahelper agreed with me and refunded all but the one hour Witmer's worked for me. I cannot say this was not an isolated incident for this company, but I do know I will not be using them again. Show Response

Instead of the guys just sitting around and waiting, they were very proactive and took the initiative and unloaded as much as they could before they simply ran out of room in front of the apartment. My only minor complaint was that Norman seemed to not pay a whole lot of attention when a box was marked "Fragile". He just treated it like any other box. I kind of wish he would have paid a little more attention. Also, Charlie dropped one box and a couple of coffee cups broke. Not a big deal, and the packing could have been better on my part, but I kind of wish he would have at least acknowledged it and perhaps apologize. But the guys more than made up for any shortcomings by tackling an impossible job...I have a china cabinet that needed to go into the basement. I truly didn't think it was going to fit...but they made it work. I was impressed. I would for sure hire them again and would request Charlie and Norman. You will not be sorry for hiring them. They were also as careful as they knew how to be, and as far as I know they did not cause any damage (of course, I haven't unpacked on the other end yet!). However, they were obviously very inexperienced in moving nicer furniture. They did not wrap with blankets until I re…read morequested it, and even then I had to constantly "suggest" that they protect exposed areas from walls and other furniture. Physically, they were very awkward with everything they did, like they just hadn't done much moving of furniture and were making it up as they went along. That made them very slow compared to professional movers I have worked with before. I had to coach them through getting larger pieces through doorways, etc. They did not plan the placement of the furniture in the storage pod at all. I had to have them move stuff around several times in order to get everything to fit, and I still ended up with wasted space that wasn't necessary, if they had just put the larger pieces in first and planned the space better. When I asked the owner, Charles, for reduced time based on the above points, he complained that he still had to pay his helper for the full time, instead of taking a good customer service attitude and chalking it up to "lessons learned". We compromised on the extra time, but I still felt that I ended up paying for something I did not get. Will not use them again unless I simply can't find anyone else. Show Response
