My issue was not at all with Coffey! The movers arrived right on time (phoning first to let me know their arrival) and were very hard-working and pleasant to work with. They carried more than normal amounts of loads up my two flights of narrow stairs, and some rather heavy boxes. It blew me away how strong Jeff the lead was and wise about timing of the day and all of them were good with communications. So job was done one hour early! My issue then is with Hire-a-Helper as it was my understanding through HAH website there was a policy with Coffey for refundable hours if job is done in less time than original estimate. Apparently this is for me to take up with Hire-a-Helper, so I was told when I called Coffey the next day. The charge had already been charged to my card as soon as job was complete (and then how could there be updates, its an automated system) I wish I had thought to just go direct to Coffey because I would have learned their policy is two-hour minimum and three guys for two hours costs what I thought I was agreeing to through Hire-a-Helper for three guys three hours. So bait and switch. I am not disputing this because Coffee Movers earned my business.. just next time I won't use Hire-a-Helper. Sure it looks easy on HAH to pick, order, point, click.. and yet....

The two guys were amazing. They called me when they arrived (right on time), worked incredibly hard, gave good advice on how to protect a few things in transit. I would hire them anytime I needed help moving. I will be keeping their contact info in my address book. Excellent.

The crew packed us for a cross country move in a freight trailer. It was a three man crew that arrived on time and worked very hard for almost 7 hours. The load was packed tight but the person doing the loading did not pay any attention to the fact that we marked fragile or top load on boxes and as a consequence many fragile items were packed near the bottom of some piles and the boxes were damaged en route. We are veterans of multiple military moves and had done almost all of the packing ourselves and if we hadn't I believe there would have been far more damge to the fragile items. In addition, although we purchased many straps and ropes to tie the load tight, the packer did not use many of them and as a consequence there was a lot of shifting and the movers who had to unload the truck at the new house had to spend a lot of time shoring up the load to keep it all from falling over as they unloaded. They commented on how poorly the packing had been organized. Finally, the main person that packed the truck also did some of the moving of furniture from the house to the truck. This individual left a wad of used chewing gum on the bedroom carpet, a large wad on the front sidewalk and another piece of gum on one of the pieces of furniture. We did not discover these until after the crew had left. It took some time to clean this up and was disgusting. So this is a mixed review because the crew chief was very good and worked hard to get the load done in one day. The crew member that did the packing and left the gum also worked hard but his performance was not up to par. Also, I recommend that people with a large amount of household goods have someone come out and look at what you have to pack. We wound up needing more than twice the space that they estimated on the phone at a significantly higher price than what we had planned. This is not necessarily the fault of the moving company, but we thought we had fairly accurately described what we had. It is better to have the mover see what has to be packed first to get an accurate assessment to avoid big and costly surprises on the day of moving.
