Kauffmans did the most unprofessional moving job I have ever experienced. We live in West Philly and booked two guys from Kauffmans to pack our belongings into a pod for an interstate move. We booked with Kauffmans because the reviews and info stated they have experience packing pods like this. The guys they sent had no experience, were extremely slow and tried to leave before they'd done the 3 hours we booked (they also left before the job was done).
To begin with, the guys arrived 40 mins late. They said they hit traffic, but who knows. We live on the third floor and they were clearly thrown by the prospect of moving stuff down two flights of stairs. (These are not the tiny Center City stairs either but pretty wide comparatively.) The biggest items were two big bookshelves. They spent 30 minutes figuring out how to move the shelves. Finally the first guy told us that we'd need to hire a third guy to help. We were pretty surprised, but we found someone willing to come at short notice on Craigslist.
Meanwhile the Kauffmans guys (let's call them Harry and Larry) started taking other items down to the pod. They had NO IDEA how to pack a pod. They took boxes down first rather than packing the large furniture and putting boxes in on top. They put boxes marked fragile on the bottom layer, with heavy stuff on top, and packed boxes sideways or upside down. Finally one of us had to stand in the pod and oversee the packing process. They were also incredibly slow. Harry, the leader, plugged his cell phone into the wall and seemed to be checking his cell phone and texting on every trip upstairs. Instead of lifting large items, they dragged them across the floor and created some large scratches in the wood floors. Those scratches will come out of our security deposit.
The guy we'd called on Craigslist came at 12pm and took charge right away. He oversaw the shelves getting downstairs within 10 minutes and stayed on. He was WAY faster and took larger loads than the Kauffmans guys.
We had booked Harry and Larry Kauffman for three hours, 10am-1pm. It was clear that it would take them longer than three hours to finish the move. Since they started at 10.40, 3 hours took them to 1.40pm. But at 1pm Harry asked me to call the number to release payment and said they had to leave for another job. I said I wouldn't release payment until they had worked 3 hours. Harry tried to argue the math with me, claiming that they had worked 4 hours! No, I'm not kidding. So I called the Kauffmans boss and explained the problem. The manager (I don't remember his name) was neither friendly nor communicative. He said Harry told him they had arrived on time -- so Harry had tried to scam us by leaving early AND lied to his boss. The boss hung up on me and I guess called Harry back, who then told me they would stay til 1.40pm. About a third of our stuff was still in the apartment.
When they finally left, many boxes were yet to be packed. The Craigslist guy stayed and helped us finish, costing us an extra $100. After Harry and Larry left, I tried to call Kauffmans to make a complaint, but they didn't pick up the phone. After calling four times and leaving a bunch of messages with no response, I called HireAHelper and made a formal complaint.
The silver lining is that HireAHelper is reimbursing us 50% of the cost ($120). But the whole thing was seriously stressful and inconvenient. Instead of cleaning our apartment as we needed to do, we basically had to help the Kauffmans guys work. It was a really hot day and I appreciate that moving is a physically demanding job. But if you can't do the work, get another job. And especially for Kauffmans, please hire skilled workers. I would not use Kauffmans again and I'd recommend that other people steer clear.

They arrived late (but did call to let us know) and they worked hard while they were here. They didn't wrap our mattress in the saran wrap we had bought and the mattress ended up being stained during the move.

The two guys arrived a little late due to getting a flat tire (can't really blame them for that). Once they got to my apartment they worked quickly and efficiently packing everything into the POD I had ordered.
I would recommend them to anyone.

My first crew didn't work out so the owner Mike Kauffman stepped up and immediately sent a new crew to unload my Pack Rat (POD type unit), the new crew was fantastic to say the least. They worked non stop for 7 hours even when I told them to take a break they wanted to keep going.
This was not an easy job since they had a long walk from the parking lot to my apartment then up one flight of steps to my unit, it took determination to get the job done. I would definately recommend Kauffman Movers.

Both men were amazingly efficient. We had a death in the family. They were able to transfer furniture from a nursing home to our garage, then move 7 large pieces of furniture and lots of boxes to and from 3 levels of our home within 2 hours. Totally courteous throughout. I hope we get the Dynamic Duo next time we need help.
