It's not every day that you decide to move across the country from New York to Los Angeles. Nor is it every day that you expect to need help for a move. When making a decision in such a stressful environment, you expect things to go perfectly. Anything that could go wrong tends to add in unnecessary stress that could lead to worry or even an anxiety attack. When moving across the country and being told by your apartment complex that the unit needs to be absolutely empty or you will be fined in the hundreds, you expect to have your unit be completely empty.

When first encountering Speedy A Safe Moving, they came over and asked what I was going to do with the stuff that wasn't in the boxes that were intended to be moved. They deliberately asked if they could have my bed, my television, night stand and more.

I said that was completely fine and was more than happy to give them the extra items, as long as they found a way to dispose of my sofa and other excess items around the apartment. I even gave them a $40 tip. But shortly afterward, things just got out of hand.

Deniel Johnson at Speedy A Safe Moving said they will be back the next day to take everything and promised that I had nothing to worry about.

What a great thing to do. I could give the items I cherished and worked hard for to these hardworking people. At they same time, they could help me by emptying my apartment.

It seemed like a win-win.

But it wasn't.

First, they called me that night asking me to release funds before they finished their verbal contract they created with me to help take the excess items out of my home. I called my husband in California. We released funds.

The next day when they came to pick everything up, they took all the items they wanted from my home. When they were done loading up their u-haul with everything they wanted, they left me with the sofa and said it wouldn't fit in the u-haul they rented. This is what they told me they would dispose of in return for all the items that I was giving them.

I told them that they made a verbal contract stating they would help me dispose of the sofa anywhere, and they said they would come back up in five minutes and help me take it downstairs, but they didn't even do that. After waiting 15 minutes, I called them and they didn't even answer the phone. After multiple phone calls, and even a phone call from Hire a Helper directly to the business, they continued to not answer calls. By night time, my husband gave them another call, only to find out they were back in the Bronx.

They were gone and had no intention to return. Stressed and unsure of what to do, I was pushed to my limits. An anxiety attack was triggered. I couldn't answer my husband's call and had difficulty talking to my family. With such a stressful event, this incident was enough to push me over the edge and push triggers. The entire next day was ruined. I wasn't even able to eat dinner with my family who I won't see again until December because I had to spend the entire rest of the day figuring out how to dispose of the items that they promised to help me get rid of or be fined over $200, which was more than what Hire a Helper cost to help with the move.

Talk about the worst feelings to ever experience after a cross country move. I was heartbroken by the experience.

Hire a Helper was great and deserves 5 stars for connecting us with a mover, but there are many better movers who have much more integrity than Speedy A Safe Moving. All Speedy A Safe and Deniel Johnson care about is scoring big on what you leave behind, but when you expect them to do something as agreed... There's no integrity and they don't care about you at all.

Go with another vendor and stay away from this group.

Mover's response:
We are sorry for your experience, Our helpers have being trained, and now operate under strict, orders not to take any items offered to them or otherwise in exchange for additional service. We do not offer disposal services.

The movers we had were awesome! We were hesitate about using hire a helper because when we used them in March to move back to NY from Florida it was a disaster. But these movers get 5 stars from us. I hope you compensate them well!
