Just John stated he was sorry and should have checked up on his helper (who has been doing this with him for several months). I saw no reason to obtain insurance as I did not have much to move - just need some muscle power and a little common sense. I believe the concept of hire-a-helper is good and much needed. It is unfortunate I had a bad experience.

However, he works steadily and other than drinking a few glasses of water (it was nearly 100 degree and humid), he didn't stop. He's also quite nice, and he apologized for being slower than usual due to the heat, and he worked about 10 or 15 minutes past the official deadline for no extra charge. As long as you have a realistic sense of what you need and the time it will take, and provided you can help, he's a good choice.

He complained repeatedly throughout the time that he spent with me, rarely answered my questions when I asked them and instead just ignored me (and my wife for that matter), and got upset with me when I explained where I wanted him to move things. I …read more hired him and his helper for 2 hours of work, but at least half of that time was spent driving to and from a warehouse to pick up furniture. He complained about having to follow me to the warehouse in his car (which was only 20 min away, and he agreed to doing this a couple of days earlier). After spending over an hour just driving (and getting paid to sit there), he then complained that his two hours were almost up and he couldn't help finish the job, which consisted of merely moving a couple of nightstands and another box upstairs. This was especially disappointing because he told me that I was his only job for the day, so he clearly was capable of helping finish the job. Also, he repeatedly bumped things into our walls, even when we asked him not to and pointed out that he was going to do so if he continued on his current path with furniture. After telling my wife it was impossible to move the furniture upstairs without hitting the walls, my wife and I pointed out an alternative route that would leave the walls unscathed. He followed that route instead and did not hit the walls. Overall, he was quite unprofessional, had a terrible attitude and no personality, and was much more careless than a mover should be. On another note, his helper, Sanchez, was incredibly kind and helpful. He did not complain once, and went above and beyond what was expected of him. In my opinion, you'd be better off hiring Just Sanchez than Just John. I recommend hiring someone else, especially someone with a personality and positive attitude. It'll make your overall moving experience much better.
