“ 2 Fernando G, White Plains NY reviewing 911 On Call Movers 5/23/2012 A few things to say, some good, some not-so-good. I'll try to be brief while also getting several points across. First, the not-so-good: • UNCERTAINTY: They initially accepted the job, and we were all set to go. Later that evening, we received a call indicating that an "emergency" had come up and that they wanted to resche…read moredule. We were on a very strict timeline, and we weren't sure if they were coming until about four hours before the scheduled appointment time. (They called at 7:30 AM and were due to arrive between 10-11 AM.) • LATENESS: They were over an hour late because of traffic. We already had the truck ready -- even though we only had it for a few hours. They did keep in touch with us, but since they were coming from New Jersey, they should have taken a different route than they did. • DID NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS: We gave specific instructions: we wanted the large furniture, piano, and heavy boxes moved first. We would handle the rest after they left. Instead, they took their time in loading up the truck as full as possible rather than just making a quick first trip as we had expected. This ultimately left us having to pay for an extra hour in order for them to fully unload the first truck and the storage unit was not packed effectively. (More later.) • SOMEWHAT CARELESS: We moved our things into storage. They were rather careless with some of our more fragile belongings. I assumed they would know how to best pack our storage unit, so I let them do it their way. MY MISTAKE. We still had a half-truck worth of stuff to transport back at home, but when the movers finished, the storage container was packed to the door. It was packed inefficiently and carelessly. We had fragile boxes with other boxes on top of them, leaning towers of boxes, and furniture arranged in odd angles just to make it "fit." I'm glad I have an excellent insurance policy, because I feel that once my items are unpacked, there may be some damaged things. They did do some good things, though: • FRIENDLY: They were friendly and motivated. They did load the truck fairly well and pretty quickly, but they packed some of the heaviest boxes and largest items toward the front of the truck -- a rookie mistake, resulting in making those be the last few things in the storage unit. They also had to rearrange things a few times rather than just making a quick trip to the storage place and then coming back. • AGREED TIME: They did come near the originally agreed upon time. While they were late, they technically showed up just five minutes past the 10-11 window. I understand that sometimes scheduling conflicts happen, but I did not like having to go to bed the night before unsure of when they would show up the next day. • EASY TO WORK WITH: Despite the problems mentioned above, they were relatively easy to work with, called when we expected, and answered when we called while they were stuck in traffic. Overall, the guys worked hard and did acceptable work, but I would hesitate to hire them again unless I was more flexible with my time and kept a closer eye on how things were being handled. Loading/unloading should have been handled with more care and planning.
