Moving to Dallas - A City Guide
Dallas is one of the largest cities in the state of Texas. It is located in the northeastern part of the state. Though the city of Dallas is recognized for many things, it is best known for being the city where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
According to the 2010 census, the population in the city of Dallas was 6,371,773, approximately one million higher than it was in the year 2000. Nearly twenty five percent of the total population of the state of Texas lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Dallas has four seasons. Located in one of the hottest areas of the country, the climate is considered to be subtropical and humid. Summer temperatures usually reach over one hundred degrees while winter months are typically mild with daytime temperatures averaging in the sixties and dipping into the thirties overnight.
Dallas is a wonderful place to visit with lots of things to see and do. It is the perfect location for a fun filled family vacation.
Getting Around the City
The city of Dallas has several options for public transportation but getting around by car is still the most popular way to travel. The freeway system in the Dallas area consists of four major highways. The roadways around the city are set up in a hub-and-spoke system and include the High Five Interchange, the largest freeway interchange in the United States. The Dallas area public transportation system consists of railway and buses and also provides HOV lanes for commuters. The DART, or Dallas Area Rapid Transit is a light railway system that operates in and around the city and is currently being upgraded to provide transportation to the DFW Airport as well as park and ride facilities. For those looking to travel in and out of the Dallas area, long distance Amtrak service is available. The Trinity Railway Express is a rail service dedicated to commuters and offers free parking. The M-Line is a trolley system that is available and links to the DART and Amtrak railway stations. Currently, there is a project in the works that will incorporate a Dallas Streetcar Project into the public transportation system and will link to the M-Line. This won't be completed and available for service until the end of 2012. Though there are several taxi companies that serve the city of Dallas, the most popular public transportation is the DART system.

Everybody loves a day at the zoo. The Dallas Zoo has over ninety five landscaped acres and is open every day except Christmas. When you visit Texas you can't leave without trying some good, down-home barbecue. Dallas has a substantial market for barbecue. Big Al's Smokehouse BBQ at 3317 Inwood Road has been in business since 1973 and everything on the menu is mouthwatering. Prices are reasonable and aside from the regular entree menu, they offer family meals to go and children under the age of twelve get a free kid's meal with every paid adult meal every day after 5PM.
