Truck & Moving Container Guides

One of the most recognizable names in moving, U-Haul offers widespread availability, a wide range of truck sizes, and portable container options. It's a popular choice for local and regional DIY moves where convenience and pickup locations matter most.
Penske is known for newer trucks, reliable reservations, and predictable long-distance pricing. It's a solid option for people who want a more comfortable, dependable truck for larger or longer moves.
Budget focuses on affordable truck rentals for local and regional moves. With competitive pricing and a broad range of truck sizes, it's often a go-to for cost-conscious movers who want to keep expenses down.
Enterprise Truck Rental offers clean, well-maintained trucks that work best for local and short-distance moves. All rentals are round-trip, which means it's really only useful for local moves.
PODS is one of the most well-known moving container companies, offering flexible, pack-at-your-own-pace moves without driving a truck. It's especially popular for long-distance moves, storage needs, and situations where timelines don't line up perfectly.
Known for durable, all-steel containers and built-in storage time, 1-800-PACK-RAT is a strong option for long-distance moves or situations where you need extra flexibility. It's especially appealing if you live near one of their service locations and want a sturdier container.
Go Mini's focuses on local and short-distance moves, offering roomy steel containers delivered right to your driveway. With a more localized, franchise-based approach, it works best for people staying nearby who want hands-on service and flexible timing.
SMARTBOX is designed for slower, more flexible moves where you want time to pack and easy access to storage. It's best suited for smaller homes or moves where convenience and pacing matter more than speed.
Zippy Shell combines portable containers with warehouse storage and long-distance transport. It's a good fit for moves that involve storage along the way or routes that larger national container brands don't always serve.
U-Pack is built for long-distance moves on a budget. You only pay for the space you use, while professional drivers handle the cross-country transport.

PODS Review

Using shipping containers like PODS allowed me the flexibility I needed. I could ship my furniture and other items to my new home, and it will be waiting for me when I finally got there. I needed extra time to prepare my old home for sale and take care of other details. The hardest part for me was to determine how much container space I needed. The PODS customer service rep was very helpful in discussing options available.

15’ van. Good for short distance, but at $1.40/mile plus gas it adds up quickly, and guzzles gas. For 35 miles I filled up 9 gallons for over $50 on top of the rental!

This was my 4th time using U-Pack. I hired professional movers to pack the pod and there was always space for last minute essentials. Excellent customer service!

Very friendly, responsive, flexible and respectful. I had a lot of heavy garage items and other storage items. The cost was very reasonable, as I filled an entire trailer. They moved me door to door to a city that other companies did not service. I will definitely use them again.

Budget Truck Review
(5 out of 5 rating)

After comparing prices of four different rental companies and a couple of moving services, I chose Budget because of their good rates which included unlimited mileage. The Weirton, WV office was great. The first truck I had had really bad alignment that hadn't been reported to them and they switched it out for me and even had someone deliver the truck to me instead of making me wait for it. Customer service was phenomenal. Only complaint is that the replacement truck also hadn't been cleaned out so I had to before loading it. On the receiving end, the Oak Park. IL office drop off was a breeze and they held my EZPass for me that I had left in the truck. Would absolutely use them again.

Budget Truck Review

The Ford Transit Van was a big improvement over the average moving truck in terms of a comfortable cab and relatively easy to maneuver. The van was ready for pick-up at the time requested, yay! But the van had a bunch of issues, none of which prevented us from using the van, however: the sun visor for the driver was completely ripped off; the back loading doors didn't lock at all, only after a tech came out (and the tech was so great, he called and followed up!) did he show us how to fix it to at least lock manually but the remote never did work to lock the loading doors; there were dings all over the van when I picked it up (it only had 18k miles on it), I documented all of them to make sure I didn't get charged for those (which I didn't); a check-engine light came on the 1st day, it went off pretty quickly and never came back on again but that caused some angst; and we had to clean the cab, it was filthy. But the cab was relatively comfy.

1-800-Pack-Rat Review
(5 out of 5 rating)

Timely. Great communication. The reservation representative understood my issues and worked to find the best solution for me. Flexible. We ordered two containers not knowing if we could fit everything in one. We could. We have to pay for transportation of the second container which is understandable. But we're not obligated to pay ongoing cost on the unused container. Would highly recommend.

Penske Truck Review
(4 out of 5 rating)

Rick with Penske Denver helped the best he could, but it took an hour to check out. Not his fault. He was patient and professional, even funny. Some problem with their verification system software. When will Corporate realize computers create as many problems as they solve? Penske screwed up the morning, their manager did a great job, considering it had happened before.

Penske Truck Review
(4 out of 5 rating)

Picking up the truck was straightforward and the reservations was confirmed and Penske had great pricing. I did book a 22 foot truck and ended up with a 26 foot truck which we didn't need and there were no moving blankets which I rented online but other than that everything was great.

Uhaul Truck Review
(4 out of 5 rating)

It's Uhaul, corporate was solution focused, but pick up location (NATION AUTO MART 4899 PEARL RD CLEVELAND, OH 44109) lacked staff with ability to explain how truck works, how to safely and securely attach trailer to truck and car to trailer. Had to drive to other Uhaul location to get competent staff to share their knowledge.
