Truck & Moving Container Guides

One of the most recognizable names in moving, U-Haul offers widespread availability, a wide range of truck sizes, and portable container options. It's a popular choice for local and regional DIY moves where convenience and pickup locations matter most.
Penske is known for newer trucks, reliable reservations, and predictable long-distance pricing. It's a solid option for people who want a more comfortable, dependable truck for larger or longer moves.
Budget focuses on affordable truck rentals for local and regional moves. With competitive pricing and a broad range of truck sizes, it's often a go-to for cost-conscious movers who want to keep expenses down.
Enterprise Truck Rental offers clean, well-maintained trucks that work best for local and short-distance moves. All rentals are round-trip, which means it's really only useful for local moves.
PODS is one of the most well-known moving container companies, offering flexible, pack-at-your-own-pace moves without driving a truck. It's especially popular for long-distance moves, storage needs, and situations where timelines don't line up perfectly.
Known for durable, all-steel containers and built-in storage time, 1-800-PACK-RAT is a strong option for long-distance moves or situations where you need extra flexibility. It's especially appealing if you live near one of their service locations and want a sturdier container.
Go Mini's focuses on local and short-distance moves, offering roomy steel containers delivered right to your driveway. With a more localized, franchise-based approach, it works best for people staying nearby who want hands-on service and flexible timing.
SMARTBOX is designed for slower, more flexible moves where you want time to pack and easy access to storage. It's best suited for smaller homes or moves where convenience and pacing matter more than speed.
Zippy Shell combines portable containers with warehouse storage and long-distance transport. It's a good fit for moves that involve storage along the way or routes that larger national container brands don't always serve.
U-Pack is built for long-distance moves on a budget. You only pay for the space you use, while professional drivers handle the cross-country transport.

The young man that delivered the trailer was very thorough at explaining the ramp, the divider walls and how to attach our locks. Very well trained young man.

The telephone sales staff made the order process easy - especially with my time sensitive changes. John, the delivery technician, was great! John communicated his arrival time and set the three containers exactly where I wanted them. A true professional.

Flexible on choosing containers for our needs and changes as we started filling the container. Allowed me to schedule earlier delivery and pickup once in Houston, saving me a month of container rental. PODs offered a lower price but we've use 1-800-PackRat before and had a decent idea what we were paying for.

Pods was super helpful and right on time dropping off the PODS. Our second POD was newer with better tie downs, but both worked well and were in good condition.

PODS was incredibly easy to work with from booking the service (having everything explained clearly and exactly) to the PODS delivered to our old home and delivered to our new one! The phone personnel were top notch and the delivery drivers were fantastic! If we were ever to move again we would definitely use PODS! Tim & Brian W. Indio CA

U-Pack was really great, they dropped our trailer off in the afternoon one day, we had moving help come the next day, packed everything in. Called U-Pack to pick up the trailer, they came the next day to get it and they delivered it 7 days later. Their customer service is very kind and helpful.

Uhaul Truck Review
(4 out of 5 rating)

It's Uhaul, corporate was solution focused, but pick up location (NATION AUTO MART 4899 PEARL RD CLEVELAND, OH 44109) lacked staff with ability to explain how truck works, how to safely and securely attach trailer to truck and car to trailer. Had to drive to other Uhaul location to get competent staff to share their knowledge.

Uhaul Truck Review
(5 out of 5 rating)

Rented a 20' truck for a cross country move, Las Vegas to Indianapolis. Truck was clean and performed well. MPG for that size vehicle was very good. Total cost of gas for the trip was $583, which a couple fill-ups at $5.19 per gallon. Thank goodness the middle portion of the country hadn't hit that yet. Cheapest we were able to get was at Buc-ee's in Amarillo, at $3.19 per gallon.

Penske Truck Review
(5 out of 5 rating)

Excellent company customer service, but the truck did make a lot of squeaky and other noises. However, I made it from point A to B which is the most important thing. When big rigs passed by and/or when the wind blew, the truck was blown over the line in the break down lane. The steering wheel had a little too much play. The truck had about 76-77K miles on it but it seemed/felt older than that while driving the truck. I did like the beeping feature when the truck was blown over the lines. Douglas was great at the pick-up location, and all the reps the helped me book the rental were the best especially the ladies in the office in Pennsylvania. 0.oo Cost of the Penske truck rental was way too much & OVER PRICED (4 times the cost of 10 years ago).

Upack was great for us from Georgia to Kentucky. Only issue was the Kentucky locations crane was broken so they had to arrange a wrecker service to deliver. The wrecker service was amazing though. Just an unexpected glitch from Upack side.

Budget Truck Review
(4 out of 5 rating)

The local service was outstanding. They did everything possible and were very proactive to help me. Unfortunately, the equipment was problematic. A 16 footer wasn't returned as expected and I had to use a new truck with a broken ramp. I would have scored a 5 star except for the broken ramp. It made the move more difficult.

The Penske truck worked out great for my move. Everything fit perfectly, and the trip went smoothly. The truck/trailer/container was in really good shape, clean and ready to go. Customer service was great from start to finish. Booking was easy, and they kept me in the loop for pick-up and drop-off, which I really appreciated.
