Penske® Reviews
Penske was there when others were not (I'm looking at you, U-Haul). For a local rental this was a little expensive. Really, a dollar a mile to move within the same county? On top of a larger bill for the basic rental, insurance, etc. Also, I had to book this by calling the local Penske outlet. Penske's Web site would not let me rent this truck for two days; the local outlet got it done. However, the truck worked, it was clean, so I have to give Penske a thumbs up!
Penske set us up with a truck 30 minutes before they closed because we didn't find out that our reservation with Enterprise wasn't going to be fulfilled until we showed up there at 5. They did call us, but we didn't receive the voicemail until after we'd already made the drive from Indiana to Michigan. Additionally, when I went to pick up some packing materials in Indiana from another Penske location, the employees there were super helpful and nice.
Truck was expensive, but available on a moment's notice, in good shape, and overall a decent piece of equipment to drive. However, it had zero power, ate diesel like it was going out of style, and wobbled around like a jellyfish on a surfboard. Overall though aside from the price and slight problems with the truck were an issue my reason for giving a 4 and not a 5 was because I was charged 100 dollars for blankets that apparently were rentals (35 dollars). Given the cheap quality of the blankets I thought they were purchased, not rented. It was never made clear. As such, I got a fee for not returning the blankets, when it was never made clear I'd be charged. The company, other than that, was great.
Penske sent us a great truck that was exactly what we need. The tow was in great condition and we felt very confident our belongings were safe throughout the move. Penske also has wonderful customer service and convenient pick-ups at Home Depot (after a customer service nightmare with UHaul this was a welcome change). Definitely recommend!!
Used a 16 foot truck to move my 1 bedroom apartment. The truck had plenty of room, no need to stack to the ceiling. Truck was in good condition and reasonably comfortable to drive. Booking and pickup was easy. I had to extend my rental and speaking with Penske’s customer support team was a breeze. They outlined the costs upfront and were transparent on all financial issues. The AAA discount is a nice bonus as well. I found Penske generally cheaper than UHaul.
The Pennske Truck Rental staff in West Haven were all great. Very professional. The truck that I got was the last one on the lot, but luckily it was the size I had reserved. It was a bit of a beater - had 80K miles on it and steering was loose and hard to drive, especially when empty. But it was end of the month and I was lucky to even get a truck and it was a great price. Drop off after hours was easy and necessary. I always use Penske. Other companies often do not have the right size truck waiting, even if you reserve ahead of time.
Penske was great and helped us out when our U-Haul reservation was canceled due to them not having the truck we ordered. U-Haul created a mess for our move but Penske literally saved the day. Plus the truck was one foot longer with Penske and I swear we needed that extra foot in order to be able to fit everything!!
They screwed up the gas charges twice and ordinarily that wouldn't matter too much, except they charge $8.00 a gallon if you don't bring it back full and it's a 70 gallon gas tank. Was a $50.00 mistake. They did fix it when I called and screamed but I had to get to the district office to make it happen.
