Perhaps the most famous landmark, and certainly the first thing you’ll notice entering Colorado Springs is the mountain that frames the horizon: Pikes Peak. One of Colorado's 54 “fourteeners”, Pike’s Peak stands 14,115 feet tall and is home to a famous road race which pits racers against mountain in a race to the top. Partially completed on dirt roads, this race offers spectators the chance to get up close and watch their favorite drivers as they slide through turns and spin their way to the top. Visitors to Pikes Peak can drive up to the top of the mountain to enjoy freshly made doughnuts, made from a special recipe that only works at extreme altitudes. Those seeking a more relaxed journey may elect to take the railway which delivers them directly to the top of Pikes Peak. Pikes Peak is also home to a grueling foot race of marathon length, all the way from the base of the mountain to the top.
