ABF UPack® Reviews
We were not sure how much space we would need to ship a lot of large pieces of furniture. So we chose to rent the trailer because of the flexibility of using and paying for only as many linear feet as we needed. We live on a narrow street with a short driveway. The truck driver did an excellent job of maneuvering the trailer into the space we had without infringing on our neighbor's ability to come and go during the three days the trailer was there. The trailer was delivered and picked up at the scheduled times. Everyone I had contact with during the booking and delivering process was knowledgeable and helpful. The trailer was clean and had everything in it that was supposed to be there ... ramp, divider panel, pad lock. The whole experience was exactly as my best case scenario imagined/hoped it would be. I would definitely use them again.
Totally honest and helpful - they work hard to get you the best deal...they must not be working on commission :-). Everyone, from customer service, to dispatch, to the drivers and the reps at the delivery terminal have been incredibly courteous and professional. Because the amount of stuff I had was in between sizes for pod-type units, they recommended I use space in a moving trailer, which ended up being very cost effective, especially when I chose to pick everything up from the terminal, instead of home delivery. My only complaint was that, due to the heavy rains in California, there was some water intrusion behind the wheels of the truck on the floor of the trailer, which was likely to get worse on the journey from SF to Denver. I purchased a large tarp to line the floor, and the ABF guys had no problem reimbursing me the cost. I really appreciated their respect for the customer experience. They truly are not like other moving companies.
I had not moved this way before. As I compare costs, it was not much more than driving a U-Haul. The only difference was my stuff was in storage for 10 months. I did not have to unload and load again, they just left it in the trailer. When I needed my things, I called and the trailer was here a week later (1000 Miles).
The driver who dropped the trailer in ATL was extremely unfriendly and not very helpful. The trailer was full of mothballs that I had to try and clean out to kill the smell. The upside was that the drivers and terminal in KNOXVILLE TN were extremely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately no ramp was left on the trailer by the Knoxville terminal so we had to offload all of our home by hand. We still have items on the trailer waiting for a ramp.
Using this service did make the moving easier. It is a very effiencient way to move. It is also cost effective. The main thing I do not like is the estimations on pick up and delivery dates and times. This make it hard to plan a schedule. However, when the company didn't follow through with one of their promises, they were very respectful, courteous and followed through with making everything right. Thanks Upack for all your help. We will be using them in the future.
On one of the busiest weeks possibly of the year in Sarasota Florida, the week following Christmas, this trailer arrived exactly as promised, and the team I spoke to was very pleasant and responsive. The move was from New York, the truck was clean, delivered, picked up, all as ordered. We booked 17 feet, used 16 and they adjusted the price down as promised.. it does appear that I have a significant amount of damage but I'm told that this is due to improper packing, for a long distance move.... by the firm I chose. And nothing to do with ABF... Nevertheless if I ever have to make such a move again or even a short one I would not hesitate to use this firm. I strongly recommend using tie straps,,... I also did not have a lock that would fit. Their equip..so I recommend taking a photograph of the information and going to buy a lock before you finish your packing. Found having the measurements of the height and the width and the depth extremely useful. Also the total length of the truck including the ramp, their site was filled with all the information you would possibly need to plan an intelligent move. It's normal to think primarily about the ramp and how much feet you need behind the trailer, but there's a great deal of space you need in front as well. One piece of advice if you're on a city street. The cab that came bringing my trailer was enormous. Bigger than the one that came to take it away. If I did not have many many spots blocked off in front of my house, I don't know how this would have been accomplished. ..also necessary...To get in front of the trailer of course to hook it on to take it away.,, very impressive all around, to have a company that fulfills its promises.
My family and I are moving cross country: from Connecticut to California. We had a 10' x 10' x 30' storage unit that was completely full with our belongings. After checking out several different options and getting quotes from a few companies, ABF seemed like the best way to go. The folks at ABF were a pleasure to deal with. The original window for delivery of my trailer was 12pm - 4pm. I called a few days in advance to see if they could deliver it in the morning. They met me part way, and said they could deliver the trailer between 8am - 10am. The driver arrived at approximately 10:15am, and was kind, professional, and expertly parked the trailer precisely where I wanted it. When the trailer arrived, it was in good condition, and the roof is semi-transparent, which makes loading during the day much easier with the internal lighting. There were no lights in the trailer, so loading at night would be much more difficult. We had some trouble with the gate not opening at the storage facility when the driver came to pick up the trailer after it was fully loaded. Both the ABF driver and 2 of the 3 dispatchers that I communicated with were polite, understanding, professional, and accommodating. It'll take a few days for my belongings to make it cross country, so I can't speak for how things worked out on the other end, but so far I am quite pleased with ABF, and recommend them!
I spent a great deal of time researching the various companies in this category. Took a deep breath..and booked ABF. They arrived on time,, both for drop off and a day early as requested for pick up. Here's a tip: I was glad that I thought it thru so much as otherwise, there would never have been enuf room for the size vehicle that came to drop off the trailor.., the cab was HUGE .. and I live on a city street, nevertheless, he got the trailer directly in front of my door. I don't have a review on the timeliness of the delivery since the truck is now on it's way from NY to FLA, but fingers crossed.... the trust I placed in them so far has been completely deserved .(PS I booked 17 feet, we only used 16 so I am counting on them discounting that foot..which I already paid for.)
Great experience. Everyone I talked to was extremely friendly and helpful. My pod arrived earlier than expected (even with the Thanksgiving holiday) and they helped determine the best delivery date. I was really surprised I was able to fit all of my stuff into one pod. Would definitely use them again!
ABF provides 28' trailers with a substantial ramp for your loading. In the fine print on the Bill of Lading, it states "ABF shall have no responsibility or liability to customer....(I) any liability, loss or damage caused or alleged to be caused directly or indirectly by any equipment, any inadequacy thereof, any deficiency or defect (latent or otherwise) therein, ... My trailer had a hole in the roof and leaked during a two day rainstorm, While unloading the trailer we found 11 boxes soaked and holding water. Fortunately, a lot of stacked goods in the front of the trailer where the leak was, were in plastic totes and were protected. Be advised that ABF bears no responsibility for leaking trailers.
This is the 2nd time I have used an ABF UPack Trailer for moving and it is the best way to go! You have freedom and flexibility with your move because you determine when the trailer is dropped off and then picked back up. You can take all the time you need to load or unload the trailer and you only pay for the space you use. I felt secure knowing my belongings were safe because everything is locked behind a bulkhead wall that you secure with your own locks. The trailers are clean, solid and very spacious. The reservation process was very quick and easy and the customer service reps I dealt with were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I'm sure I will move again in the future and I will not hesitate to use ABF!

ABF does what they say and follows up every step of the way until your journey is complete. Whether you are moving and packing your own stuff or using a packing company you will not be able to drive it across country yourself as reasonable as ABF can haul it for you and on time... very professional and great customer service.... highly recommend!
First time using ABF U-Pack, I did not consider the rough ride our goods would experience. I would do it again, but take more precautions to make sure items were packed, padded, wrapped better to minimize any damage. They were flexible with the delivery and pick-up of the trailer, a slight complaint is that they were supposed to pick up the trailer on a Thursday afternoon or Friday morning but didn't until Sunday evening.
We liked the ABF concept of loading a truck and then someone else driving it. Our problem with ABF was two fold. First, they subcontracted out the job to another company (Estes). No one told us about this until a truck showed up with a big "Estes" on the side. The second problem was that they would say when a trailer was coming or would be picked up, but it would either come very early or late, or even the next day, without explanation. Customer service was friendly enough, but it was hard to tell how effective they were.
