ABF UPack® Reviews
Extremely helpful and easy to work with. My move date shifted several times due to weather issues and the response was "no problem". They delivered and picked up the truck on time, as promised. They accurately estimated the space I would need within 2 cubic feet. The trailer arrived clean and within the time frame given. Their follow-up services are fantastic. They go beyond the norm in helping the customer. I would use them again.
Showed up on time. quote was accurate. transport was on the quicker side of their window in fact it arrived before I did. Customer service was good. For the distance of my move this was the cheapest and easiest option for me about 1200 mi. Pick up was quick and painless. I would definitely use again for a semi to long distance move.
I was unaware of the company's hiring of inexperienced drivers. Therefore, many of my belongings encountered scratches that could have been avoided, potentially, with a more experienced driver. Their pricing structure, however, was very reasonable. As for timeliness, they were awesome with the trailer drop-off and pick-up for the move, but they were extremely slow for retrieving the empty trailer. Neither my new neighbors nor I were not pleased with this oversized trailer sitting in front of the property for an extended amount of time.
If I were to do it all over again, I would use the ABF UPack trailer again. I had originally arranged to have moving containers, but the moving company's truck that delivered the containers broke down and did not have another truck to use to deliver the containers. When I felt that there was no way that the moving containers would arrive in the window of time that I had available, I contacted UPack.com and arranged to have a trailer delivered 2 days later. I was relieved that ABF had availability in such a short amount of time. The customer service representatives were very polite and explained everything very well. The trailer was not new, but it was decent. The delivery and pick-up drivers were very courteous and respectful and took the time to set it up for loading and/or pick-up. Those ramps are pretty heavy, and securing those bulkhead doors are not trivial. Those drivers assisted in setting up/putting away the ramp, and securing the bulkhead. They were really great. ABF also arrived when they said they will arrive. They were very diligent with the schedule. So, far, it seems that none of our belongings were damaged during the move. I also wound up paying so much less than what I would have paid with the moving containers. The price is upfront and only changes based on how much of my belongings filled the trailer. So, not only did I have a wonderful moving experience, I also ended up saving a lot of money.
This transportation option worked well for us. The driver was very professional and courteous at all times. He was available to assist at any time through out the moving process. I opted for a live load and a specific targeted time for arrival and he showed up on time and waited through out the duration of the move. I received a call from their office in advance confirming the ETA of the trucks arrival. The driver assisted with the removal and reinstall of the bulkhead divider in the truck which is no easy task if you don't know what you're doing. Customer service, booking, pickup and drop off was extremely professional. They did their job to ensure that the process runs smooth for you. Moving is a highly stressful experience and the whole end to end process went well. I would use them again!!
I requested a live load and for the truck to arrive at 9:00 am rather than within a specific window of time. The truck arrived on time as per my request and the driver was friendly and courteous. The driver was also helpful in managing the mechanics of the bulk head in the trailer truck. I would recommend ABF and would use again.
Did someone say "ramp?" A broken ramp? Unusable, non-existent? Plus, they don't tell you that they fill up the rest of the unit with toxic chemicals that get all over your stuff. And they cut off our lock. Why? Who knows. They did get there on time, but make SURE you have the driver put the (hopefully existing) ramp on for you and walk up and down it.
Good service with the trailer - especially the communication. We did have a problem with the ramp provided. Why not leave the ramp on the truck? The ramp should stay with the truck - it's certainly easy to track a ramp. The company cut off our lock to add a ramp on the destination end b/c they claim they didn't know if there was one on the truck, despite our following their specific instructions on the beginning end to leave it off the truck. Poor communication internally with this part.
The trailer was delivered without a ramp. We spent four hours trying to find one because it was the weekend and ABF was closed. We finally found and rented a ramp, but it was way too short. ABF delivered the ramp on Monday, but by that time 98% of the trailer had been loaded. We have used ABF in the past without any problems, but this time someone dropped the ball.
We moved from Connecticut in July if 2015, other than we knew we wanted to live in warmer climes we had no definite destination. We planned on living in our motor home until we found a place we liked. We got rid of large furniture but had a number of stationary power tools and over 300 boxes and bundles of stuff that we packed ourselves. Our stuff just filled a whole 28 ft long u-pack trailer, but we would have rented the entire trailer anyways. he provided loading ramp was convenient but despite being made mostly of aluminum it was heavy and awkward to handle. I managed to unload it once myself but it really needs two people to do it comfortably. The trailer was old and had obviously seen a lot of freight over the years, so I'd describe it as "beat up but reasonably clean" . After we loaded the trailer U-pack it was moved to the ABF/ U-pack secure yard in Enfield CT. Where it sat thru the CT winter. Storage was $395 per month, perhaps a tad high but much cheaper than unloading a moving truck into conventional storage and re-loading it again. Obviously this was not a climate controlled storage but we planned for that. When we found our new place to live in Florida, we called U-pack and had the trailer delivered, in June of 2016. All our stuff was there in the trailer just as we left it locked with our locks on it. On the day we planned to receive the trailer bad weather was moving in so we called and asked to re-schedule for two days, no problem for u-pack. We are only about 20% unpacked and so far found only 1 cracked glass plate, remember however that we packed the stuff ourselves- hard to blame U-pack for that. Others have pointed out that the u-pack trailers are not fitted with air suspension like many moving trailers, true, we just anticipated that. For us it was a convenient and economical way to relocate. U-pack customer service varied a bit from good to great. Occasionally the fact that you are dealing with a commercial trucking company (not a residential mover) came through but overall they were responsive and cooperative (sometimes the cooperative part needed a nudge) . We used hire a helper on both ends of the move.
We used the ABF trailer and it was a great experience. They work with you every step of the way and give you confidence that your stuff is protected and secure. Of course, it is not for everyone, as you need to do extra work to load the trailer, but using Hire-A-Helper took care of that and saved us over $2500.
We ended up needing a few weeks of storage prior to moving into our new place, u-pack offered an easy option for this. They dropped the trailer off on time and the driver even spent extra effort to fit the trailer in a street spot in front of our house, despite wires and trees that blocked our initial spot. The option to have them store the whole trailer was great and avoided us unloading and loading into a storage unit.
The trailer went from Kansas City to Raleigh NC with no more than a slightly wet box and nothing broken Although, the trailer didn't come directly to NC, I believe the trailer was shared more than once along the way. Pick up in KC was later than we were told. We were given a 7am to 5pm window for drop off in NC which made it hard to schedule moving help. We were told we would be able to schedule same day turn around on the trailer in NC and that wasn't possible.
Moving can be a nightmare, but this company made it an easy transition. Truck was dropped off and picked up like clock work. The drop off was the same. I would use this company over any other out there. Thanks for the great customer service. The driver that dropped the truck off in Jane was fantastic. I want you to know how much I appreciated his help. Thanks so much for the great service.
It turned out that the space needed estimate based on their formula didn't work for me because I have so much nebulous junk!! The estimate was for 23 linear feet and they sent a 28 foot trailer. I filled it and had about 13 linear feet left to pack!! I was more than distraught because I have to be out of my house in 2 days! I called UPack and they calmly took care of taking the filled trailer and dropping off another. They clearly understand the stressors of moving and try (successfully) to relieve as much of the strain as they can.
