Everything was going well with PODS up until the day of the container pick up. There were a number of issues with a lack of communication and updates from PODS on the status of the container pickup. To start with, the website portal was not updated to reflect that the pickup was on schedule (I had to contact customer service in order to confirm), and after the initial pickup window was missed, I went through a number of customer service representatives both online and over the phone before I could get a status update as to whether the container would be picked up at all on the scheduled date. It was eventually picked up on the scheduled date, but not until almost 8pm and only after I had spent about 2-3 hours holding and working with various customer service representatives. Not exactly the experience you are looking for with a moving partner.
The only reason its not 5 star is that the POD can't scheduled for pick up until next week and the condo complex is going to fine us for every day it sits there. The number of people moving right now, being summer, is quite large, but when I set up the POD for delivery, I was not able to get a date for pick up when needed. Other than that, I really like the company and will use them in the furture .
My review is very mixed with PODS. We've used them for two moves, and it's so very easy to book the deliveries and pick-ups and book your movers in between. Our first move 7 years ago couldn't have gone more smoothly. However, this time around, PODS didn't pick up for transport to storage on the Saturday evening that they were scheduled. We had a particularly contentious home sale, and with our closing on Monday, our intention was to have the PODS cleared out well in advance on Saturday. However, they didn't come, they didn't communicate that they weren't coming, working on Sunday to clear out backlogs was apparently not an option, and I didn't feel any sense of confidence that our issue would be resolved. You can't contact your local PODS facility; you can only contact corporate headquarters. They can attempt to contact your local office while you hold, but if the local facility doesn't pick up, you just feel lost. You get different answers from different people. Don't get me wrong, they all want to help, but there is only so much they can do when your local facility is not responding. At the end of the day, they did get the PODS cleared out on Monday morning first thing, but I spent the weekend feeling extremely unsettled fearing that our failure to vacate would have given our buyers the ammo they needed to get out of the deal without losing their earnest money. So again, when things go well, PODS is great. However, when you confront any kind of obstacle, it's quite a headache.
Over all worked out very good. The only issue we had was seeking to schedule all things together was an issue. They work with we will inform you after six the night before it happens. Very hard because you don't know when to have help come. Pods were in good shape when they arrived. That worked out very good.
Among the major issues that were completely unacceptable were the fact that we were told a 16 foot container would be sufficient to load all our household belongings, but it was not. When we tried to get another PODS for the remaining items, we were told it would take at least two weeks to get one. We we unable to wait as we had to vacate our home so new owners could move in. We were forced to obtain another carrier to transport our belongings out of state at great expense. Do not tell people they can fit a 3 bedroom house in a 16 foot container as that is simply false. Then don’t tell people there are additional PODS available if additional space is needed and then tell them it will take 2 weeks to get one delivered. Another issue was the length of time it took to get our personal belongings at our destination. We were told it would take over 30 days to get it because you did not have resources at the destination to get it delivered sooner. As far as billing, we were charged an amount more than the original quote and we had to make numerous calls over several weeks to resolve the issue. My overall experience was very dissatisfactory.
