1-800-PACK-RAT® Reviews
Pack Rat did not deliver the containers as ordered, and then claimed that they had nothing in their schedule. If they did then their customer service staff did not enter it properly. The delay was four days. They then claimed they couldn't pick up the empty containers in a timely manner, this took 5 days. The only good thing about their work was the delivery and pick up driver, he was excellent.
I would recommend anyone wishing to use this service, that they get a written quote for all steps in the process of the order completion. *meaning initial drop location cost, initial pickup location cost, destination location drop cost, destination location pickup cost. If your item is housed in the companies warehouse for any length of time, make sure the quote includes that additional cost. The management and phone support with this company leaves a lot to be desired. Hours spent on various phone calls, being tossed from one department to another. When I spoke to a manager he was no help at all. I let some time pass and called back and received a very nice gentleman that helped with all of my concerns and saved me over $1000. I will not use this company again and I definitely would not refer anyone to them. The only one exception is the drivers. They were great!
Good service overall with competitive prices. My items made it from cross-country travel in one-piece and it was on-schedule. However, there was a bit of confusion with my order, where I paid extra for a morning drop-off but I was told multiple times by their staff that they didn't see it in their system. Eventually, they decided to accommodate my morning drop-off request after phone call correspondence. Their online website was inaccessible so any service updates throughout the process had to be handled over the phone with ~30 minute hold times.
**Review for Pack Rat** ????? It started off great with Pack Rat. Susan MacNeilage was nice and helpful, and the drivers were fantastic, dropping off the pods exactly when promised. However, I was billed $1100 over the quoted price. After being constantly called until I paid, now there’s complete silence. I’ll be disputing the charge. It was a terrible ending with what I thought was the best company to go with. So, GET YOUR QUOTE IN WRITING! I might use them again, but I’m sad it didn’t end well.
We changed from PODS to PACKRAT 2 weeks before the move. PACKRAT is a completely steel structure all around. I didn't feel comfortable with the PODS container structure (fiberglass roof and wood flooring) traveling across 3 states to our destination especially with the weather we've been experiencing.
I was a ten hour window for deliver of the storage pod. The pod did not arrive within that time frame. I had to call to make sure they were still coming. I then was given a four hour window. The pod arrived within the second time frame. The driver was very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. The drivers skills and knowledge with his truck and maneuvering the pod was excellent.
There is nowhere inside the container to attach straps or cords, leaving anything not loaded perfectly to shift, drop, break. If there is room for things to move- they will. A number of my furniture items were damaged or broken. The pickup and drop off require 2-3 parking spaces which is challenging in an apartment complex. The 8ft container WILL be put across two parking spaces. The drivers were both very nice, polite, on time and as helpful as they could be.
The size of the container (8ft) was almost too small. I had donated a lot of furniture and everything fit just right (I had a bit more extra space but not sure if everything would have fit). The condition of the container was good and they gave me a lock. I had the container sit outside for 5 days which was awesome. The delivery times for the most part worked out. The estimate times may vary between what the company tells you and the time that the truck drivers comes in.
It took 2.5 weeks for container to reach destination. Though they are within SLA, but it was took much compared to other movers.. Also, time confirmed by local depot for container to arrive at destination was not correct & they didn't shows up as per unloading team schedule & due to which I have to pay extra $300 for company helping unloading to come for next day.
I wish the box units were in better shape, but they did the job. I used packrat because my daughter used pods and got screwed around big time with late ship, ments and empty promises. You need to understand, once they have your belongings you are entirely powerless and at their mercy. SO I chose Packrats and while there was some serious misunderstanding of shipping logisitics, I was able to get a supervisor on the phone and she reviewed the recorded phone call of the initial set-up call and heard that I indeed was correct and she made good, so I give them props for that. They did deliver on time, and drivers were helpful and courteous. I would use them again.
I would definitely not recommend them for a long-distance move. The containers were one day late on both the initial drop-off and pick-up. Once they were transported across the country, one container was delivered two days late, and the other one three days late. I was NOT notified that ANY of them would not be delivered when promised - I had to call the national customer support number. Every time I was told by customer support that I would be the first drop-off in the morning. One was dropped at 1:00, and the other one at 11:00 (after a 7:45 phone call from the driver letting me know he was an hour away). There is no way to reach local branches. Even customer support can't reach them most of the time. I was quoted $9440 for two 16 foot containers. It was said as, "I can get you moved for a total of $9440, with rental fees of $300 per container after a month." This was not true. It was $9440 PLUS tax, fees, and the rental for each container on top of it. So with all of this, plus the movers on both ends, I ended up paying the same amount was what United Moving Co quoted - and they would have been on time and wrapped all of my items.
Packrat is great; however, some of their customer service reps were not great. We ran in to a problem with our pods being delayed and were getting threats from the woman who bought our house. The customer service rep made a joke of it, refused to help and accommodate. When I asked to speak to a manager she said she was a manager and when i asked to speak to a snr manager she said she is a snr manager too. However, when I wrote an email to explain, I had an actual manager call me back and work on a resolution with me.
The truck driver was the best. Quick efficient friendly and courteous. Oh my could he maneuver that truck!!! Tight fit in driveway and he did it with confidence and professionalism. I have never seen such an accurate quick truck driver. I worked in shipping dock for 7 years and this guy was GOOOOOOD!!!!
