PODS® Reviews
'water resistant' left some of my stuff water damaged. redelivery scheduling didn't match promises at the drop off end of the trip. left camping in an empty apt. for a week. charged for extra month of storage because they didn't/couldn't/wouldn't honored promised scheduling requirements at beginning of move. Had to fight to get storage fee reversed; then to get storage insurance (!) fee reversed.
The best thing about PODS is their customer service. Their representatives were always friendly and dedicated when I called for help. I experienced a few challenges with PODS - they couldn't bring the POD to me so I had to bring my "stuff" to them. This was a major hassle and ended up costing me about as much as renting the POD in the first place. The biggest issue I faced was with the PODS facility's hours of operation. They close at 3pm which is ridiculously early. The facility was only 10 miles away but with traffic that was an hour each way. Had they stayed open later I could have made more trips each day and saved money on the number of days I needed to rent the cargo van and/or truck. Also, my POD left the night before I was told it would leave which meant that I was not able to make my final scheduled loading appointment. I was stuck with having to pull a trailer with my car to get the rest of my items moved. This added an additional $1,000 to my moving costs. I thought PODS would save me time and money but it did not. My move ended up costing double what it should have. It also took far more effort and time on my part than it would have had I hired a moving company to transport my items. Yes, my items arrived safely and quickly but I had to hire a moving company to empty my POD and transport the items to my new home on the other end as well. All in all, this move was a hassle and did not go as it should have. I might use PODS again if I can guarantee they will bring the POD to me and offer more flexibility with days/times for drop-off and pick-up, etc. But, I will definitely spend a lot more time shopping around with my next move.
The mover refused to place the pod on a level grass surface as I wanted, claiming they won't do that when winter is coming. Instead, it's near that spot, but angled a clumsy 45 degrees off angle and on raised tree roots so it's not sitting level. I really don't understand the logic, but what could I do? If I'd known this would be an issue, I probably would have gone with a competitor without such a strange problem with my location choice.
Pods is a convenient way to move. This is our 2nd time using them and prefer the comfort of knowing our items will arrive on time, not sitting in a warehouse or damaged from being loaded, unloaded and reloaded again. The four star is for the 2nd use as the pods was not as stable as the first one we had. It wobbled and although it probably wouldn’t have tipped over, it was still a little nerve bending because we live on a hill.
PODS was both good and bad to work with. I used 3 PODS and had them delivered and picked-up at my former house for 3 weeks leading up to my move. It was great to get stuff out of the way and know it's safely in storage. The bad part is if you're on any sort of tight moving schedule (which I was). You can't choose drop-off or pick-up time and it's several steps to get anyone on the phone. But all the customer service reps are super nice and all the drivers were super nice. All my stuff was safely delivered to my new house.
The POD was very clean looked brand new. As for customer service my experience was very professional and matter of fact I work in customer service and there needs to be some warm and fuzzy so customers understand you know where they are coming from even if we can't accommodate them. Also, when you need next day pick up or drop off it's not an option so you need to plan ahead but things change especially when coordinating movers.
