Budget® Reviews
I reserved Budget Rental Truck two weeks in advance. I received an email stating that my reservation was ready. The day I went to pick up the truck with my mom, I came to the pickup location and there was no truck. I called customer service, and they attempted to locate another truck. After calling back hour after hour, I was told that that I would receive a call early the next morning, the day of my move. I received a call, and was told the nearest truck was two hours away one way in Chicago (I am moving from Milwaukee). There may be another truck closer by later that day. As expected, I was livid as this had been set up weeks ago. I was told that I was to have confirmed the truck rental 48 hours prior to the day of rental. However, not a single email, nor anything during the reservation had stated this. In fine print, it says a truck is not guaranteed. I have never heard of a business model that asks for a reservation, but then does not provide the service. I will never use Budget Rental Truck again, and I will advise anyone I know that is moving to not use this company. I was able to locate a truck from U-Haul, and they had amazing customer service. They found me a truck, and I was able to move. If you require moving and you are doing it yourself, use U-Haul.
After picking up a Budget Truck 6 hours into our trip the check engine light came on and stayed on. There was no heat in the truck and the ashtray was full of cigarette butts. I didn't keep the truck for the full days as it was jerking and I didn't want to be inconvenienced by a break down. When I called their customer service and spoke with a manager I was told that I was merely inconvenienced by the vehicle and because I didn't call and say the engine light was on there was nothing they could do beyond give me $85 back after I had the rental 2 or the 6 days I rented it for. They were a complete joke. I would not recommend them again for any reason-not even a local move. The customer and service is nowhere near their primary focus. Also to put in context the day before I was supposed to pick up this truck I was told it was unavailable and later told it would actually be there.
The price is good. When we pick it up rental truck. It was easy and smooth for us to pick up rental truck. We had trouble with our rental truck. We did paid for roadside assistance and insurance. I called the company on Thursday. I know it is holiday. They told me that they will tried to find someone to fix for us. I got a call from rep inform us that someone will be there in about one and half hour to fix the issues. We waited but never showed up then I have to call rep again about this. They told me that all store is closed and couldn't find someone to send to fix the issue. We waited for one and half that we could leave little early instead of wait for them to come. Next day, We had other issue with tire. They were able to send company to replace the tire without any hassle. I was able to drop off rental truck in other location but they were not open until 9:15 am. I have to wait for about one hour for them to open so I can drop off rental truck. I choosing this because it was good deal price and got discount. I plan to use other company because I have best experience customer service by other company.
Budget Truck Rental did not have my truck available when I went to pick it up. I understand there the storm caused problems but that does not provide any excuse for not contact me ahead of time, not giving me any heads up, and not even a phone call the next day to tell me whether they found a truck or not. I am very disappointed and frustrated with the entire experience and their actions definitely show they do not care about their customers. Thankfully both Penske and Uhaul had trucks available despite the storm and I was able to complete my move.
Josué at Budget rental truck was outstanding, professional and has great customer service. Now we should give a review about the truck. 1- right front tire needed to be changed. I have the pictures if you want to see it. 2- Due to the tire wear, the truck pull to the right and the steering wheel had to be kept straight using additional arm strength. 3- The key ignition had issues, It took 3,4 and even 5 times to start the truck. 4- The exhaust system or muffler was too loud, seemed it may have a leak. So this truck failed it’s safety inspection in my book, which brings me to think that safety may not be on the forefront of this company. You were cheaper than U-Haul and Penske which were the ones I checked but, Budget needs to have safety as their main priority when renting. The customer is placing trust in your equipment but, this experience has placed a dent on trust, should I trust a company who can’t ensure their vehicles are 100% road ready at all times? If you are asking why I didn’t chose the other companies, it was because I had already had a good experience with Budget but, this last one has placed a huge dent on trusting your trucks for renting. I hope this helps improve the maintenance on your vehicles and bring to your attention the uncompromising attitude towards safety on your fleet. Thank you and God bless.
Let's see what to start with first, I booked the truck locally seven miles from where I resided end up paying for the truck and then them calling me as I'm on the way to pick up the truck 2 hours later telling me they don't have a vehicle for me that I have to go another 23 miles to Covina from the city of Buena Park. I was promised a discount because of the inconvenience then I would get it at Covina when I check the van out never received it they didn't even know what I was talking about. Vehicle was filthy doors had problems closing the seals were leaking it turned out . it rained and I ended up getting wet in the inside of the truck. There's only one key to the the truck I rented and it only fit the driver's side door it would not unlock the passenger door. Rear tires were below pressure recommended on the side of the truck had to have them fill before loading. I hope it gets me to Texas! I will never rent from Budget Truck Rental again.
I picked the truck up from a third party (Cropos in North Chili) and I believe this is the only reason I had issues with this reservation. We received a phone call from this location 10 minutes prior to our scheduled pick up date and was told they did not have a 26ft truck available for us to rent, despite this reservation being submitted weeks in advance. As we arrived we noticed they did have several 26ft trucks on the lot but we were told we could not rent them as though were for other reservations they were not able to satisfy from the last 2 days. Obviously upset, I called customer service to speak to a regional manager as we should've been notified ahead of time of a rental shortage as opposed to last minute on our moving day. Once the rep found out who I was trying to get a hold of they let us know we could get one of the trucks. It wasn't until we got to our destination that we discovered the truck had holes/tears in the trailer that were not patched correctly and since it rained hard throughout the night some of our furniture was damaged. The rep at the drop off location was way more helpful and was able to help me get a hold of customer service. The most customer service offered to pay was $35 for the inconvenience which was a pretty weak offering. We're currently going through an insurance claim with Budget directly in regards to the damages done so I'm hoping they'll make this right. Again, I don't think any of this would've happened if we stuck with an actual Budget location as opposed to some shady looking 3rd party retailer.
The only reason I say "good" rather than "excellent" is that I got a bigger truck than I wanted, but it's not the fault of Budget. Apparently, Amazon and FedEx are scooping up all the 10- and 12-foot trucks for their busy season, so I had a 16-foot behemoth. That said, the people at both ends--pick up and drop off--could not have been nicer, and I'm kind of tickled that I got pretty good at maneuvering that big truck! Drove all the way from Youngstown, Ohio, to Boston without incident. I also loved that they had a list of helpers for loading and/or unloading from which to choose.
Rented a 2017 27’ truck with 111,000 miles for a cross country move. It was in terrible worn out shape. The drivers seat was collapsed, the truck broke down due to a bad starter, the car hauler was beat and the tires straps were not long enough to go around the factory tires on my 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Steer clear of Budget. Better options out there.
It took me nearly an hour at the Budget facility to pick up this truck. One headlight was out, and the other had so much oxidation on the lens that one could barely see the light. It seems like Budget likes to keep the costs of their protection packages secret until its time to pickup the truck. I called both the national number and local office several times prior to the rental, and no one could give me an answer. Their protection costs are considerably higher than their main competitor, making the original quote sound like a great deal, while it's actually not so good when factoring in the excessive insurance costs.
Penske was awesome, but I have to say the choice was a last minute option. I originally went with Budget Rental; I booked the truck over a month in advance. Unfortunately 17.5 hours before I was supposed to pick up the truck, they said it was no longer available. I spent four hours trying to get a resolution with Budget but kept getting the run around. I was even told if I would have read the fine print, booking the truck didn’t guarantee the rental. I was guaranteed call back after call back and nothing. If I can offer any advice, please know you get what you pay for. Budget’s customer service and professionalism was the worst I’ve ever experienced. They really screwed us and took zero responsibility for their error. Very disappointing and cost us a lot of additional money and stress that we didn’t need the day before move day. Stay far away from Budget.
This is second time I've used Budget Truck rental for the same one-way, cross-country trip (Los Angeles to Denver). My first experience was perfect, but this time around, not so much. I was late getting my truck back to Budget in Denver due to weather, and couldn't get a call through to the receiving location until around 11 AM to let them know. Talked to the national office instead and WOW - worse customer service call I've ever experienced. ME: "What's the late fee for the truck?" HIM: "You'll have to get that information from the receiving location." ME: "But what do I do when I can't get the local office to pick up the phone?" HIM: SILENCE. ME: "Hello? Are you still there?" HIM: SILENCE. I still don't know if he hung up the phone or just chose to ignore any more questions. One positive note: I did finally get hold of the receiving office and they said they can work with me on the late fee of $25. So, nice.
