U-Haul® Reviews
Scheduled my truck over a month in advance. However they called me less than 24 hours before I was supposed to pick it up to tell me the closest one was over an hour away. I live alone and had no one to drive me for a 2hr plus trip to get it. Don't know the purpose of reserving in advance and then not having one available to me. UHAUL maybe the cheapest but they are not reliable.
Truck was great, Uhaul contractor was very helpful, but Uhaul's lack of flexibility on one-way moves and price discrepancies between markets leads me to believe they have the most complicated algorithm running the show. It was cheaper ($1400) to do a local, 700 mile move, than it was to do a one-way. We round-tripped the truck and flew back to our new destination just to save.
I did not receive a pre-pickup call from UHaul the day before my reservation (per their website) and the truck I reserved was not at the reservation location requested. The entire reservation was messed up including pickup site and destination. I didn't know that the reservation "isn't really for a specific location". Had to drive another 20 miles to get the truck I'd reserved.
I rented a 26 foot truck from U-Haul in Mooresville, NC and it was awful. We rented it from U-HAUL CO, 304 W PLAZA DR MOORESVILLE, NC 28117 (704) 663-6267. The truck broke down on the way and had an engine light on during the whole time. When we got to Jacksonville I couldn't even make tight left turns with it because the power steering was out. In addition on various occasions the BRAKE lights came on with alarms signifying that the brakes weren't working. This truck should not be on the road and I just thank my almighty LORD that he helped get to our destination despite all the issues. I will never rent from this location again and may not rent from U-haul at all as they didn't do anything about it and left us stranded with an old 148,000 mile truck!!!
I had issues with Uhaul right from the start. First they couldn’t guarantee the truck I needed (even though I reserved well in advance), then after a couple of days back and forth we got a truck but it was much bigger than what I needed. As far as the customer service went the in store folks were good. However, the regional reps I needed to talk to to find a fan were less than forthcoming and the three I spoke with I thought were very rude. Anyhow, the size of the truck impacts the amount of gas needed for the trip, and this was an out of state move. On top of the cost of the rental I spent roughly an additional $350 on fuel, which was not part of the budget. Turning in the truck was relatively painless (though not without it’s hiccups) compared to getting it. Having said all that this was my first AND LAST time using Uhaul. I will not recommend them to anyone either.
Its hard to believe that with 6 uhaul locations in the city I was moving from (80,000 population), I had to drive 70 miles to get a 26' truck, and then they forgot to put the moving blankets in the back. The 4 star rating is because they let me have the extra miles due to the pickup location, and let me pick up the truck the day before I had it reserved so I got an extra day.
U-Haul came in look to see what size truck I should take to load my house in and drive it to the location of the truck was in excellent condition it only had 5000 miles on it was a fairly new truck customer service during the booking process was excellent Tom did everything perfect he was really good at what he was doing have used U-Haul Many times and I would use them again
I got an 11th hour call from Budget that they didn't have a truck, so I called UHaul and they immediately scheduled one for me. I'd give them a 5 star rating for their customer service, including the guy who went through the truck with me re any previously marked damage. The truck drove well, but the brakes squealed. In Seattle, there is lots of traffic and lots of hills, so those squeaky brakes got a workout. I'd use they again and would recommend them to everyone.
