U-Haul® Reviews
Would have been 5 stars but the van was not as tall as I thought it would be, couldn't get a full sized mattress in vertically thus the packing was more difficult but Modern Day Movers experience overcame that. More my not getting into the minutiae of the specs of the Ford van. Ford Van was brand new...OK the review should have been 5 stars.
Uhaul left us stranded in 109 degree heat in Arizona when a tire blew on the trailer hauling our car. It took them almost 3 hours to change the tire. Also, we reserved this trailer and truck weeks in advance but on the day of our move they informed us we had to go 40 minutes out of our way to pick up the trailer at a different location then the truck. Very disappointing.
Less than 24 hours before the rental, they changed the size of the truck, the pickup location, and the time of pickup such that we had to reschedule our movers at the last minute and depart later than planned. Absolute nightmare. Customer service over the phone was no help at all. Don't understand how they can run a business like this.
I ordered a UHaul trailer that was supposed to be 5 minutes from my house. At the last minute they called and said it was no longer available and I had to drive 2 hours to Fresno to pick it one up. So I drive my dually truck 2 hours there and two hours back. The diesel fuel ended up costing me more than the rental! Then I drive 8 hours to San Diego unloaded everything and UHaul called to confirm location I was dropping off the trailer. I told them I was enrolled there now. Showed up and it was closed and they did not accept trailers! So had to drive the empty trailer back to my house and UHaul assigned me a different location to drop it the next day. By now I’m exhausted but had no choice. I showed up at 8am the next day at the address UHaul customer service gave me and they said their lot was full and I had to go somewhere 49 minutes away. By this time, I was furious and frustrated to the point of tears. I’m a widow in my 60s and I was spent. A customer saw my distress and helped me Drop the trailer in their driveway. I drove away in tears and contacted UHaul asking for a refund based on my horrid experience. They said customer service would call me. They never called and I got an email from Jeenna Monique Poe Schultz offering me a discount on future use but no refund. I replied that I had already moved—why would I want a discount? I again requested a full refund and I never heard back from them again. I am going to post this story on social media so others know they have alternatives to using UHaul and the disgrace and non-caring attitude that their corporate headquarters displays.
I did my reservation online and was told that my local uhaul shop would have the truck. My quote for cost was $97. I get a call saying the truck is not available at my local shop and I have to drive 40 mins extra. I drive the 40 mins extra am given a truck but u haul attempted to charge me $285 dollars. Luckily Ruddy was able to talk to them about about the cost difference and in only paid $150. Truck ran fine and was large enough but when they say they have it local and they don't you pay the difference. Actual 50 miles to move but add 40 miles both ways to pick up and drop of the truck.
We rented a truck that was too small, and when we went back, the location we had used did not have the size of trailer we needed, but gave us the name and direction to another location and assured us they did have the size we needed. The owner of the U-Haul was so helpful and allowed us to take a couple of bags of blankets at no cost because we have waited for her to be able to clear the truck so she could rent it to us. It was not due to anything she did they we had to wait but due to problem with how our truck was turned in over the weekend. We would definitely use this location again.
We were extremely pleased with the U-Haul services provided by the team at the U-Haul Moving Center at 2800 Two Notch Rd in Columbia, SC. General Manager Porsha, Keetra and Terrance were all fantastic. They went out of their way to ensure that we, as first-time U-Haul truck users who were also pulling a trailer long-distance, had all the information and help we needed, along with exactly the type of truck we wanted. We felt very well cared for by this team, and each one of them is a great representative for the U-Haul organization. Thanks so much for everything, y'all!

Truck was not at the place of reservation however they did send me to another hub to pick it up. That’s where the problem began. No truck. Waited an hour while they tried to find one but was told to come back in three hours. Got the truck three hours later. Made the trip 150 miles to my destination and to the U-Haul storage center. I had lined up helpers to meet me there to unpack the 26’ truck however I was told my reservation was there but they had no units available. What?? They tried for over 30 minutes to resolve this issue but couldn’t. Now I’m stuck with looking for a storage unit tomorrow (Monday) and figuring out how to unpack a 26’ truck. Not happy.
