1-800-PACK-RAT® Reviews
I used Pack-Rat now 2x's and have had great success each time. They are clear in quoting how Pack-Rat works, the cost and the time frame to deliver, load and how to locate helpers to load/unload. I would recommend them again and again. When you load it yourself-you know what is there and because you have the lock and only keys you have peace of mind.
After initially speaking with 2 Men and a Truck, We opted for PackRat for the actual interstate shipping ($10700 vs $4700). We later learned the HireAHelper affiliate in Pensacola would not pack and box our shipment, just load furniture and packed boxes into the pods. While 2 Men & A Truck would do all packing boxing and loading of the pods. Three man crew and packing supplies, 4 hours cost $1211. At this end in Portsmouth, NH it ran about $490 with tips. Beat the heck out of $16,000 total cost based on the 1st quote!
Had some problems with delivery being on time due to some issues they could not help but they did not communicate with me. I had to keep calling them to find out when to expect the pod delivery. I also ordered 8 packing blankets to purchase which did not arrive as promised. Charges were adjusted but really needed the blankets for furniture.
I was very satisfied with Pack Rats--after comparing to my quote from PODS, they beat that price and then were very flexible with rescheduling after I cancelled then requested to reinstate my request, essentially matching the previously quoted price. Their communication was excellent and, by only needing to be there for the initial drop-off, it was very convenient for my work and timeline of moving. I felt far more comfortable with them (& HireAHelper for the loading & unloading) than the full-service moving companies.
Pack-Rat customer service was great from start to finish. From booking, to helping find movers. Also the trucking companies. Great experience with the container drop off and pickups in both locations. The containers are very clean, easy to load and the drivers were all very professional and friendly. Pack-Rat also gave me the best deal. I appreciated that there is always someone available to answer any questions along the way. When I send the next container it will definitely be a Pack-Rat.
The PackRat service was acceptable. The one major issue that precludes a 5 star is that we learned 2 weeks after placing the reservation that the local contractor hired by PackRat does not operate on Wednesdays. Our container had to be moved to a Friday, and we were still charged the AM guarantee delivery. From a customer retention standpoint, it would have been an appropriate and professional gesture to waive the $50.00 AM guarantee. Since our move arrangements were interfered with due to lack of communication between the parent company and the local provider, compensating the customer for the inconvenience would have produced a much different outcome in this review. In all, we were pleased with the timeliness and efficiency of the container delivery and pickup, but disappointed the company did not see the value in assuring full customer satisfaction with the service.
We had a complicated cross-country move. We sold our house and knew our stuff would have to be in storage for a few months while we found a house my wife would like. I priced out a lot of options from classic moving companies to other container companies. Pack-Rat had the best numbers and they were the most friendly. Our move went very smoothly. I had an issue opening up one of the containers once it arrived at our new house and my contact said something to the effect of “Just tie it to the back of your truck and rip it off, I hate those damn doors anyways” That’s the kind of company I like. I would highly recommend them.
We moved our belongings out of a 2600 sq/ft house. 3-16' containers. You're engaged with the moving container process from start to finish. Their container system is very efficient and I love how they keep the containers level as they load and unload your container. Their employees are very friendly and they make sure your containers are where you want them placed. Only advice: Make sure you keep a standing list of weight and have a good game plan. The containers only hold 6,000 lbs and it fills up quick. It's one big giant Tetris game and I used tie downs every so often to keep my items from shifting.
It has been very difficult to reach anyone locally by phone when needed. At 2:30 a call was received to say delivery would be between 4 and 6. At 6:30 I placed a call to the 800 number and they indicated the delivery would be between 7 and 10 PM. Changes in delivery times need to be communicated so the consumer is informed.
This is my second time using this company and honestly it did not start out good. They brought out a 16 foot container that had lots of rivets missing which leaves holes that moisture (rain) gets in. I called and they did replace with a newer one. The customer service people are kind and I believe they really do want to make it right. The driver didn't seem to think it really mattered just told me to tape up the holes! I managed to get everything taken care of but it really makes me rethink using them again. we will see how things are when we get it opened.
The 1 800 Pack Rat drop off of my container was a small disaster, but once I communicated a series of issues to the national customer service line, they were solved after hours by a dedicated operations manager who took it on himself to make things right. My cross country move went off without a hitch, and among a dozen or so times I dialed 1 800 Pack Rat to continue coordinating our plans, their customer service in North Carolina was exceptional. I'd rate them 4 stars out of 5.
