1-800-PACK-RAT® Reviews
Overall it was an okay experience, But after scheduling my container in advance, it never showed up and they told me it was never scheduled. That was extremely stressful, given that the closing of my sold home was happening only 2 days later. Thankfully they were able to resolve the issue. When it arrived at our new home, it looked like it had been shaken a lot, and there was some damage, despite strapping things down prett well, but I expected that with such a long distance move. Customer service was very helpful, and I might use them again because it's a little more cost effective than similar options.
The Pack Rat people have been nothing but true professionals from start to finish (almost). When we needed an extra container there was no problem, 3rd container. We were just a little short, but was sent the 18 foot container for the same price of a smaller unit (just to be safe). Getting access to our first container was great, the guys at the warehouse were wonderful, had our container out and ready for us when we got there.
Overall, PackRat was super helpful with our move. We filled two containers, one with newer side swinging doors and another with an older overhead roller door. If you get the overhead roller door, be careful not to fill so full that things move and block the door opening area. That happened to us, but the manager in charge came out to help us get it "unstuck" -- he climbed in through a 1 1/2 foot space at the bottom and got everything moved!
The unit is very well built and clean. Herschel, the driver, called first thing in the morning to give me an estimate of deliver time. He called again when he was an hour away. Herschel was very friendly, professional and helpful. He answered all my questions and made sure the unit was exactly were I wanted he. Thank you Herschel!!
The drivers were all great on both ends. However they were a day late picking up our containers due to a truck breaking down. We planned to wait until they were picked up to make sure they were not overweight and thus got delayed in leaving. We did not want to drive to Texas from Ohio and find out we needed to come back and unload if they were overweight limit so we had to stick around. They did still make it to our new home on time.
Pack Rat was awesome. We needed to store all our stuff between leaving our rented apartment and closing on a condo. We got a 16x8x8 pod for our 2 bedroom apt and fit everything in with room to spare. The pod drop off and pick up went smoothly every time with a phone call before arrival and I didn't even have to be there for pick up which was very convenient. Everyone I dealt with on the phone or in person was so kind and helpful I would definitely recommend Pack Rat for any pod/storage needs.
The drivers that placed and picked up the containers were great. The only issue I had was time! When you call the center to set up the time, they will ask you are your drop off times during the DAY flexible? Don't say yes!, my unit was not dropped off until 10p. The call centers response was "you did say anytime". So be specific!
I would NEVER recommend PACK-RAT!! The 1st portion of the job was great. We had a time set and the drivers called ahead to let me know when they would be there. Great job!! The delivery of the container on the other hand SUCKED!! I had a time set for delivery on he 29th for anytime BEFORE 9:00am. I had movers scheduled. They never showed. I started calling the company about 8:45 and was on hold for well over an hour trying to find my container. Meanwhile, my movers were right on time!! After finally getting a live person to answer the phone, I was told that there was never a set time for delivery. That they never set times up, they just deliver any time. Funny, there was a time set for drop off. Hmm. Why would I say "anytime " when I have scheduled movers?? I was then told by a supervisor that he would contact the driver and call me back. NOT!! And this was after being put on hold 3 more times!! The driver finally called and said he'd be there by 2:30. HWY 55 called to check when the container would be delivered and they would come back!! (KUDOS for them). Again NO show. HWY 55 showed up again to do their job and I had to send them back. Called PACK-RAT again. After being on hold another 2 times I was told rhis time by 4:00. Delivered about 4:10. This had to have been the worst experience I have ever had!! I was on hold with PACK-RAT for close to 3 hours total with absolutely no satisfaction. They had no consideration for anyone!! Not only was it a wasted day for me and my family, but also for my movers. if there was a score of less than "poor" they would definitely get it!! And NO I would definitely NOT use or recommend 1-800-PACK-RAT.
If u have a cross country move this is the way to go...they brought my Pod to my old house on the 10th of Aug as stated and picked it up on Aug 13 exactly as promised it then arrived exactly the day they said it would. I choose this company due to the fact of the great reviews i read and also personal friends and family had previously used them and were completely satisfied just as i have been...Would not hesitate one bit to use them again Great stress free move for a 1600 mile move.. Thank You Pack-Rat
The people answering the phones at PackRat have some of the best customer service people I have ever dealt with. They always answered my questions with courtesy and friendliness. PackRat lived up to all the good reviews I had seen. Booking, drop off and delivery to our new home went without a hitch. I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting a less costly move.
Very poor service from this company. They cost me so many problems and extra expense, stress, and wasted time. 3 containers to deliver were messed up 3 containers to pick up on time were not done as promised. After taking up with higher management because i was concerned i would have delivered on time, i did get on time. But very bad service for a company that just moves big boxes. I would never use them for a long distance move again. Only storage locally. They do not have the logistical systems to plan transpotation for their warehouses
800 Pack Rat worked great for my cross country move, BUT, here is some advice for the next guy. This thing to appreciate about Pack Rat is that they keep their containers and drivers scheduled pretty tight, fairly far in advance, so, when I realized that my stuff wasn't going to fit in two containers, and I would need a third, there was not one available in the city, and so it delayed my departure by almost a week. I thought I had discussed this possibility ahead of time, but did not actually pre-book the third container, so they were sold out. My advice, if you think you might need one more container, schedule it. There does not seem to be a penalty for booking an extra and cancelling it. Dates for picking up and dropping containers also book up, because the trucks are kept booked at near max capacity, so getting the second container out of the way to make room for #3 was also an issue. The take home is to try to plan carefully, and don't expect them to be able to be very flexible on short notice. I was told that August is busy time, so they may be less tight at other times. But, all in all, good container, good delivery system, good support staff, reasonable cost, and it worked out quite well.
