PODS® Reviews
I live in a city that won’t allow PODS to be left on the street and don’t have a driveway so I had to have their city service where the driver brings the container and waits while we load it. We had 4 hours to load and I had booked this about a month in advance. The driver was an hour late with nothing but excuses as to why. Then he missed the turn for my one way street and ended up backing down the street. Thankfully nothing was damaged but I’m very annoyed with the way this panned out. Thankfully the movers I hired to load the container were amazing and able to get everything loaded quickly.
I had a lukewarm experience with PODS. Communicating with the PODS team to figure out how to place my container was difficult. Their website has some very vague pictures that you select from to tell the PODS driver how to position the crate. However, the pictures are confusing but apparently very important to decide how to place the container. I was initially reassured that the driver would coordinate with me to figure out how to place it, but I never received a call. I decided to call on the day of my container delivery to find out that the local container delivery branch was not informed to call me. The PODS call center was condescending and blamed me for not informing them to have the driver call despite being told that I would be called when I initially placed the order. In addition, the call center kept falsely telling me that the driver would figure it out on his own by talking to the city (???) to figure out where to deliver the container. I ultimately was able to communicate with the driver, but the PODS was loaded in the opposite orientation of what I wanted which was not ideal but manageable. Apparently, the POD orientation cannot be switched once loaded on the truck so there was nothing the driver could do once he had arrived. It was not the PODS drivers' fault but rather the PODS company's fault. I know a bit better now how it works, but I did not have this much problem with UPack. PODS needs to improve their website to explain how the container will be placed or just allow the client to directly talk to the distribution center a few days prior. It would substantially ease anxiety with the entire process.
PODS kept in contact through texts and emails. The only 2 complaints I have are: 1.) The customer service girl who took my original order transcribed our zip code and all the PODS went to the wrong city, AND we were charged for a double delivery. We are in the process of disputing this. The other issue is waiting on hold for 45 minutes to an hour to reach customer service. Once I did get through, on the whole, they were very helpful. We have used PODS in the past, I would recommend them, but be prepared to wait on hold. (it's like calling Comcast, Verizon or ATT)
PODS customer service sucks, but I can't deny that the service they do offer is pretty good. The crews that dropped off and picked up our PODS were awesome and the friendliest people ever. Their customer service reps need to take notes from those guys. It may be expensive, but at least I knew my stuff would arrive in one piece because of the awesome drivers.
Absolutely awful experience between the loaders/unloaders (3rd party through PODS) and then the PODS itself. Many of our items were damaged from rain/water, and there was also mold damage too. We were told that the movers would bring blankets, but then the movers told us that PODS was wrong and we needed to provide them. Several of our possessions were damaged, including, but not limited to: a knife set (molded), our TV stand (broken), dining room set w/ table and chairs (scratched & chipped), glider chair for our son's nursery (molded), two cribs (chipped and molded), couches (molded). If we knew that PODS would be inconsistent and reckless with our items, we would have went with another company. And they need to do better with recommending 3rd party movers. It reflects poorly on them.
We have used PODs for 3 mioves over the last ten years, and would use then again were we to move in the future. The PODs drivers delivered the pods within their time windows. Each driver called about 25 minutes before arriving to let me know they were coming. And did the same a few days later once the PODs were unloaded. I needed to delay the delivery date for one of the PODs and it was very easy to do.
I think PODS is a great option for a long distance move like mine (OH -> MD) in terms of cost and flexibility, but going through the process for the first time I did a lot of things wrong just due to lack of information. So, while overall I think I had a good experience, I believe they could do a better job of guiding folks new to the service. This could take the form of a better organized or more detailed website, training their phone staff to give information about what to expect, or even preparing the delivery drivers to spend a tiny bit more time with customers after dropoff to ensure the POD is able to be opened normally.
website down for over 9 days, could not log in, phone "support" took 3 hours on hold, when they finally answered, they could not help, nor would they give me a local number to inquire where my pod was. It arrived as if by magic only 6 days late, thus costing me another month of charges, trying to get this resolved, wish me luck...
We hired a wonderful two-men crew to empty the remaining items in our PODS containers. These men are hard-working and very patient with customer demands. Boxes to be figured out (where to put them) and heavy items to be handled up the stairs (quick reasoning and teamwork). They went above and beyond making sure that all went in where we wanted. They even found fallen hardware pieces for various items. They measured walls for a few items to decide whether these would fit or not, willing to move the furniture several times before our final decision. Prompt and precise arrival time, a full-on toolbox and expertise to assemble furniture items (we asked assembly for an unusual rustic table, so he finished it in a breeze!). If we ever move away from here, I can use this company again.
Awesome experience with PODS both at our house in CA and here at the condo in Detroit. Very friendly and super helpful drivers. The driver in Detroit helped find a spot to put the POD when the one the HOA had approved did not work and even waited for an HOA board member to come down and approve the new spot.
