PODS® Reviews
When I set up the delivery of the PODS I was told a third would be in reserve if I needed it. When I called to ask for the third unit, I was told there were no units available. I had to go to another carrier to get the remainder of my belongings out off the house. I had scheduled the pick up of the PODS with the original order and received an e-mail stating they would pick up ONE unit. When I called to ask when they would pick up the second unit I was told they only 'service' my area on certain days. They're schedule was full and they would not pick it up for 12 days. New owners were trying to move in around the POD. What a mess!
Right from the on-time delivery of the POD to the placement for unpacking, PODs did exactly what I was expecting. I would use them again. The only negative is the delivery point in Maine is Portland. That location is about 4 hours from my home. I strongly recommend PODs establish a site in Bangor, Maine. That would’ve been only 1-1/4 hour drive time.
Pods worked very well for our cross-country move. The container delivery folk were pleasant and courteous, even when we threw them a curve or two as to where the containers needed to be placed. We had two minor damages owing to our inexperience with packing and moving furniture, but nothing that was the fault of how the containers were handled. I would definitely use Pods again.
the PODS system worked like clockwork in Wisconsin, arriving on schedule, allowing them to be loaded the next day and picked up by PODs the day after that. 11 days later both PODS ended up getting delivered a day late on the delivery, so we had to push our hired helpers back two days. Then it still took a couple days more for them to pick up the PODS....their Eugene, oregon, office must really be swamped. Nevertheless, we saved about $5,000 over the cost of using a moving company and so we were satisfied.
A tad bit expensive but this was the best option for my situation. My PODS went from Florida to Washington state and arrived to it's destination much sooner than expected but unfortunately I was unable to have it delivered to my new home until 5 days past what I wanted it due to scheduling. Everything in my PODS remained pretty much in place with minimal shifting and they did an excellent job with placing it in the proper location. When they picked it up the first time though they were a few hours late which the storage unit I had it at was not happy about. I don't think I'd use them for a local move unless I actually needed a month of storage, but I probably would if I ever did another cross-country move.
On the Wisconsin end, the PODs system worked like clockwork, being dropped off on the correct day, allowing us to load the next day and then PODS being picked up on the third day. In Eugene However, the PODS came a day late, causing us to have to reschedule our Hire a Helper crew for unloading, pushing them back two days. And then it took an extra day for the PODs to be picked up afterwards. I guess they are just understaffed with drivers in their Eugene office. Overall, the POD system worked well for us and at quite a bit of savings over a moving company.
The drop off and delivery of the pod service was right on time and I appreciated the text and phone calls. We were very disappointed though that we were not able to fit much into the pod. When I called, I told them what items we would be moving. We really needed another one and now we must move it ourselves. I would have made other arrangements if I had known ahead of time that our furnishings would not all fit.
For my move across the country, I don't know how else I could have easily have stored my things (a two bedroom house) & moved them as conveniently, but I feel like they increased my monthly rent as often as they were able without good reasoning (I was 'long distance' even though the stuff was in the same pod, same place, no change) then kept the price over $100 higher than when I started once I was moved & needed to continue storage locally. I ended up getting a truck to move the extra things in to & storing locally for much less than PODS price. Very frustrating because I couldn't refuse the price increase when they were holding my things. I felt like they were holding me & my things hostage! I would never use them again.
There isn’t a big message in four stars - we used two 16 foot moving containers and I think the first one was a little ‘tired’ compared to the second. Their customer service is quite good on the phone, but their CSM agents don’t totally understand their business and loaded the POD in the wrong direction for our house delivery - the driver knew how to spin the POD around. Also the first agent forgot to send me the names of helper companies. Be careful about their helper third parties as they are agents and you might get helpers from a local mover at a lower rate. We used an over the road certified moving company for furniture, electronics, china, glassware and other fragile items. PODs worked for us as we needed long term storage while building a house in another state. Mover storage is quite expensive but the out of state delivery is better than a POD container.
There were some scheduling issues with PODS, but we got it worked out. Mainly because Portland Movers were flexible and stayed until the job was done. They down loaded my pod 4 days ago and it is still sitting in the driveway in front of my building. Apparently they don't keep enough trucks or drivers onboard to keep up with the demand.
Pods is an awesome answer to my needs. I was notified well in advance of pick up & drop off times. The drivers were very helpful & accommodating. I had no problem requesting drop off & pick up date. The container was perfect size & most important ... Clean... as I have all of my belongings stored in it..
I had many interactions with PODS to adjust and arrange my deliveries. My only frustration was they would only allow me to select a day and not the times for delivery or pick up. Had I been aware that my pod wasn’t going to be delivered until nearly 4 pm, I would have chosen a time for the day before. Overall, this seems like it would make their process easier and more agreeable for all people involved.
