The Cost of Moving Services in Colorado Springs, CO

With our platform, you can choose the level of help that works for your budget and needs. Full-service movers are pricier but include a truck and driver, so you get the convenience of having everything handled for you.

Labor-only movers handle loading and unloading all of your things. They’re more budget-friendly but increase your involvement — a great option if you don't mind handling the driving or renting a moving container.

The Cost of Labor-Only Movers in Colorado Springs

Did you know? More than 1 out of 3 HireAHelper customers who select our labor-only moving service use the help to load or unload their PODS container.

Labor-only movers charge an average of $94.04 per hour. The more stuff you have or the longer it takes to organize everything, the more you may pay.

Timing matters too! Weekends and summer months tend to be more expensive, so if you move on a Sunday or in April, you could save.

The Cost of a Local Full-Service Move in Colorado Springs

Full-service movers cost a bit more because you’re paying for the truck and an experienced driver in addition to loading/unloading services. However, you may want to splurge on convenience to avoid renting a storage container or truck yourself. Not to mention, you’ll also avoid the stress of operating — and parking — a large vehicle.

Local, full-service moves typically cost around $904.92, but timing also plays a role. Moving quotes may be lower on Sundays or in April.

They not only met but exceeded my expectations. When filling a pod with home furnishings you do not have all items fitting into a perfect 18X18 inch box; you have long items, tall items, big items in reality all shape and sizes. Along the way they filled every inch possible of the pod so as not to have items moving and shifting during travel thus protecting your household goods.

Real Advice from Colorado Springs Movers

"Colorado Springs all out of rental trucks on your moving day? Pueblo always has a good supply of trucks. Check there before just going with a different company."

HireAHelper's Moving Guide for Colorado Springs

Tip 1: Be Ready for Rapid Weather Changes

Sunny skies can quickly turn stormy in and around The Springs, so watch the weather and be prepared for anything. Consider having large plastic tarps, bins, and ponchos ready should an afternoon thunderstorm roll in unexpectedly.

From late fall to early spring, keep snow and anti-ice gear ready to ward off frigid temperatures and slipping hazards as you haul boxes.

Bonus tip: Download the KRDO StormTracker 13 Weather app to keep up with precipitation possibilities, wind advisories, and other weather events in the middle of your move.

Tip 2: Keep an Eye on Base Traffic

Check for cadet events and consider timing your move around them, especially if your route takes you near Fort Carson, Peterson SFB, or the Air Force Academy. Deployment ceremonies, community events, air shows, and Air Force graduation week can all substantially increase traffic in the area, leading to delays during your move.

Bonus tip: Check the Colorado Department of Transportation website for travel alerts, road closures, and road conditions on the day of your move, and replan your route if necessary to avoid delays.

Tip 3: Prepare for Olympia’s Hilly Terrain

In hilly neighborhoods like Mountain Shadows, steep roads and driveways make parking a truck tricky, and hauling heavy furniture up slopes is exhausting. Full-service movers can help position a truck for easier unloading and get your belongings inside.

For a DIY move, consider renting a storage container for flexible unloading, or use dollies and moving straps to lighten the load. Hiring labor-only movers can help lighten the load for you too.

Bonus tip: If you're DIYing, invest in wheel chocks at a local AutoZone to supplement the parking brake and keep the truck stable while unloading.

Frequently Asked Moving Questions in Colorado Springs

You've got moving questions — we’ve got answers. Learn what to expect when moving in Colorado Springs.

The size of your household is typically the most significant factor, but timing matters too—expect higher rates during peak summer months. The number of stairs or elevators at both locations will affect how long the move takes, as well. For instance, multiple flights of stairs can add significant time to your move. To find the most competitive rates and best value for your specific situation, use our side-by-side price comparison tool to explore your options.

While handling the whole move yourself is the cheapest option, you should consider how much you're realistically comfortable handling yourself. Labor-only moving is a budget-friendly option for tasks like loading and unloading, especially if you handle transportation by renting and driving a truck. Professional movers can still lighten your load and save you time, while you save money by taking what you’re comfortable doing. Scheduling your move on Sunday can also help get the cost down.

Planning ahead is key for a winter move in Colorado Springs. Keep a close eye on weather forecasts and have a backup date in case of severe storms. Protect your belongings from snow and cold by using waterproof bins and covering furniture with plastic sheeting. Clear and salt all walkways, driveways, and entrances before the movers arrive. Have snow shovels and ice melt on hand, and make sure utilities are turned on at your new home so you have heat. Start earlier in the day to maximize daylight, and keep warm drinks and emergency supplies ready.

It’s customary to tip your movers, but it’s not included in the HireAHelper cost. Standard percentages are 10-20% depending on the level of service provided.

Schedule your move between 10am and 2pm on weekdays when rush hour has cleared to avoid traffic congestion. If possible, plan for a weekend move when commuter traffic is lighter, especially on major roads like I-25 and Highway 24. Keep in mind that Academy Boulevard and Powers Boulevard often experience lunchtime traffic, so mid-morning is ideal. If you're moving during peak season (summer months), be extra mindful of increased traffic around Garden of the Gods and downtown areas, and plan your route accordingly.
