Ultimately rented a truck that ran well and did a good job. The first truck was missing a mirror so opted not to take this one for a 16 hour move. Second truck was newer and ran well. The rental agent forgot to put the moving blankets in the truck so needed to drive back and pick them up. The receiving agent was unpleasant, or maybe call it straight forward efficient but the return went without a hitch.
You truly get what you pay for, and my experience with this company really hammered that home. Picking up the truck in AZ, the staff were friendly and super helpful, if a little short handed (only 2 people on the Saturday afternoon before a holiday). The truck was beat up with a questionably outdated maintenance sticker on the windshield, and the items I requested were not in the truck prior (furniture pads and a dolly), so we waited for the guy to retrieve that before pulling away. Truck ran great for the 1,070 miles we needed it. The main issues came at the END, in Fort Worth, TX. Apparently their system DOES NOT take in to consideration holidays when booking your reservation online. I tried to drop off morning of July 4th to avoid being charged an extra fee for more than 5 days, but when I arrived at my drop off location, the store was closed. I was only 45 mins early to my reservation time and the site had said reduced hrs for the holiday, not CLOSED. When calling the customer service line, it took the guy more than 10 mins to realize I had a TRUCK not a CAR from them, even though I had clearly stated 16’ moving truck AND the confirmation # formats are not even remotely similar. I was transferred to a supervisor who finally realized the error, and tried to send me to a location with after hrs drop box. The address he gave was TWENTY miles from my current location, and that’s WAY too far when driving a 16’ truck whose tank you have to return full or get charged ANOTHER fee. Tried calling back for closer location details, but the same thing happened with the confirmation # and supervisor. 2nd guy’s advice was to return the next day (late) and pay the extra fee, then file a claim online due to their system error. I’ll never rent from Budget again. I’d rather just pay the extra with a company that has never given me problems as a military wife moving around a LOT.
I will never rent a truck from Budget again. They cancelled my reservation (or at least that's what they told me) and I was never notified. I received a final confirmation email from them on Thursday and come Saturday, when I went to pick up the truck, the said the reservation had been cancelled due to truck availability. The associate did work to find me another vehicle but it was smaller than what I had reserved which caused additional challenges. The gentlemen at the rental office where I eventually did get a vehicle from was very nice and did the best he could to help me but overall, the experience was unacceptable.
No AC! We rented a Budget Truck to move from Virginia to Florida. I added an extra day just to make sure we had time to get it completely loaded. Unfortunately I when I picked it up at the Virginia location it was a cool morning (low 70's). We only drove it 10 miles to my home for loading. I also had purchased insurance and roadside assistance. The day of the move was much hotter. It became evident that the air conditioning did not function effectively enough to cool the truck. Because the truck was full and we had already scheduled a moving company to help unload the truck we did not stop to get repairs. We traveled 850 miles with no AC in 90+ degree temperature. Upon arrival I told the check in representative of the issue with the AC and was told that no adjustments could be made at the counter and would have to contact Budget Customer Service. When I called customer support and asked for an adjustment we were offered $40. We had spent $65 on the road safety net. I expected to at least be offered that amount since we were unable to use it. The phone rep stated that we should have called and they would have met us with a replacement truck. I guess that she expected us to completely unload and reload a full 27 foot truck on the side of the road... Impossible. When I asked for a manager the rep said she would escalate the call and make contact herself. After returning to the phone she stated that the supervisor had adjusted the offer down to only $25. That was based on the fact that we did not complain of the lack of AC on the 70 degree morning when we picked it up. When I again asked to talk directly to the supervisor she refused stating that she did not have a direct number. I asked her to give him my number and have him call me and again she refused. Finally when I continue to press to talk to someone that could provide me with a better offer than $25 she started that she would put me on hold and then hung up. I believe that Budget Truck Rental is a good company but they have fallen far short of my expectations on this trip. When they value the compensation of renting out a defective truck to the customer at less than half of the assistance plan's cost that is just poor!
The 26-foot Freightliner truck was terrible! Complained to Budget about it. Something was clanking loudly when at 60+ mph but goes away below that speed. The seat was uncomfortable for 5-hr drives and the cargo ramp was slanted and wobbly...movers of both cities almost fell off when moving large items.
They gave us a bad dolly to use that the strap was broken. When we returned the truck the worker yelled at me for the amount of gas in the truck even though I returned it at half a tank and they gave it to me with a quarter of a tank (returned the truck to the same pick-up location.) The worker was rude to me and did not care to ask me questions but went straight to accusing me of things. They reported I was late to return the truck even thought I returned it before the 24 hours. Budget truck charged me a late fee and charged me for an additional day rental (I rented it from 5:30pm on 6.17.19-6.18.19 5:30pm). I called customer service and they were rude and hung up on me the first time I called. The second time I was able to get my money refunded to me for the additional day they charged me.
The 26 ft truck was fine. The rear door needed some lubrication and the rear door the latch was rusted, but it closed with some elbow grease. The temperature gauge was at 3/4 but never got into the Red zone. Both people at the pick up and return locations were very nice and helpful. I changed my Drop-Off location to Wilmington, NC rather than Jacksonville, NC, since it was 40 miles closer. Heather at the Wilmington location, (Champion Eats, Inc.) went out of her way to accommodate me. I'd use both companies again. It's great to see such great service, especially when moving, because there is a lot of stress.
The 26’ truck leaked rain into both the cab and the truck, soaking many boxes and damaging a box spring so badly it had to be discarded. Not happy at all. The rental process was straightforward, the service staff at the rental location excellent, and the size of the inside of the truck ideal. Otherwise, or I would’ve given them only 1 star for their failure to properly maintain their truck. Thankfully, I took their maximum insurance so can file a claim once I can assess how bad the damage is inside the stack of soaked boxes, but at this point I have no idea how it will turn out. Again, not happy at all.
Our budget rental went fine. The customer service office wasn't great when we first picked up the van (tried to charge about $500 more than official quoted price), but once resolved it went fine. I got a flat tire along the road and they sent someone out to fix it at no cost to me. The van was also in good shape.
I rented a truck to help move my friend’s belongings from an apartment in Southern IL and a storage locker he had in another city in Central IL to Cleveland, OH. The man I worked with when picking up the truck was not very friendly and almost made me feel like I was annoying him when I was there. The truck itself made the trip, but it was old, the inside of the cab was sticky, the seats were unbelievably uncomfortable, and the whole truck shook while driving. It was a horrible experience and because of this I will probably never rent from Budget again. The other places were a little more expensive, but it might have been worth the extra money.
Truck did NOT run well. Could not go over 60 mph without a check engine light coming on indicating "stop engine now." Truck couldn't handle large hills/mountains well either, often going 45 mph going up big hills. When returning the truck, the gentleman said he was immediately taking the truck out of commission. I would like money back for our inconvenience. Will be following up with Budget on this issue.
