U-Haul® Reviews
Our stuff was transported on time, safely, and in great shape. As long as we didn’t have to make any changes or need customer service, it was great. If we needed ANY customer service, it was a challenge and the app… the app is virtually worthless and slow to make any changes or do anything but make an initial reservation.
U-Haul provided me with a truck that had known issues. The mechanic at the pickup site snickered as he asked me if I was traveling far, proceeded to reset the vehicle diagnostic code with his scanner, and allowed me to drive the 26ft moving truck with an attached car hauling trailer across country "2100 miles" even though I asked for another vehicle. The truck had little power, spit and sputtered under Excelleration, and the fuel milage reflected a vehicle that was not fully operational.
I brought the household to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh for an unload and carry. I think that, 'We pick Things Up and Put Things Down' could have provided better equipment for them, but the crew said "No Problem" and did the job. The owner, Karim, was good, I lost no time, nothing was damaged, so no complaints
Truck was available, but not too close, and the lots that were close never answered their phones or returned calls. Had to call the central number for help, which they happily gave. Also...the 24/7 pickup sounds like a great idea, but their app is a 100% pain in the butt. I had used that same EXACT app nearly four years ago and all the bugs and bad UI is STILL there. It is very time consuming and in some place is confusing and makes no sense. FIX THAT! It's 2023 U-Haul! And their size estimator sucks. Had to get an additional trailer, which I found out was pretty much how it goes with them. And it was freaking expensive for a one-way (which I can understand to a degree). All that said, the equipment was clean enough and did what it was supposed to do.
The truck was great, clean, mechanically sound, just the right size, comfortable and fuel economical as well as reasonably priced rental. However, the new after hours pick up service left much to be desired. It was quite frustrating and took an extremely long time, over an hour- with two tired girls in the car.
The truck was good. It drove well and sucked allot of gas, but at least it was unleaded and not diesel, but the licensee failed to assist in any way. The truck was empty of gas and I was afraid I might not make it to the gas station! A $29.75 gas credit for me cause it was empty!!! And bring it back with a quarter tank, like I can make such fuel consumption calculations as I'm driving. This is what POed the most. The windshield was so full of bugs I had to clean it before driving. The licensee failed to show me any functional aspects of the 26 ft truck. The back of the truck look blown out with a leaf blower but the cab was clearly not. Oh ya, it's the big truck out there! We'll see if I get credit for fuel if more than a quarter tank in the truck when I turn it in!! I guess I can put up with this BS since Penske wanted +$1,000!!
The U-Haul place I rented from was ok. Not great. (Scenic Hwy, Snellville, Ga) Customer service did not seem to be one of their priorities. The truck itself was old and not in optimal condition. There were no ropes/belts/nets in the truck to secure items during the move. The cab was very high, and extremely difficult for a disabled person to get into. When I returned the truck, I had to wait a long time to check it in.
The U haul was not at the gas station that was confirmed on my order two weeks prior. I was told to go to a second gas station 15 blocks away and the truck was still not there. I needed to order and pay for a new truck at the second gas station. If I was unable to do this I would have missed my window with the movers and lost > $500.
