Went with PackRat because of the cost. Used 2 16’ containers, and could have used an additional 8’, but it cost just as much as a 16’. Ended up renting a U-Haul trailer. Wait times for the call center could definitely be improved. Best hold time was 35mins the worst was 2hr 46mins. Cost increased $250 from the original quote due to gas prices. Check the fine print. I need to see how delivery works, but I’d use them again.
We ordered 2 containers for our move across the country. The first container looks kind of crappy (can see rust everywhere and it's old). I was surprised that they didn't give a better container seeing that we are moving across the country, Anyway, we got it loaded and soon it was on its way. When it arrived in our new home in New Jersey, we started unloading and then only did we noticed that there were actually 2 holes in the container. We did not expect or see that when we were loading it - who expects to see holes in moving containers! We were shocked and disappointed that they give such crappy equipment to customers who paid thousands of dollars to use their containers, transport and storage to move their personal belongings across the country. Even the transporter that came to pick up the empty container the next day was shocked to see the holes and the container in such poor condition. You would think that a big company like this would have people inspect the containers before offering it to their customers when these containers are supposed to store valuable personal belongings of the customers who paid thousands of dollars for them. Very disappointing and obviously no quality standard established at all when it comes to their equipment. The second container was fine. I still give them 4 stars because the customer service was decent and the transporters on both ends did an excellent job in loading and unloading the containers.
My complaint with Pack Rat is that there are many hidden cost that are charged and you are not told about them. The rental for the container, it appears in the final contract itemized, but we were told it was included. Gas charge also in the contract but you are not told anything about fuel cost not included in the overall quote. In short they tell you on the phone a bunch of BS. Our moving coordinator assured us that every thing is included. We ended up spending nearly $800 more than the original quote and the charges are spread out over the move beginning to end so you are already in the middle of it when they tell you to read the fine print
I'll never use this company again. At first they price matched the competition, but that only worked because they didn't give me enough containers. I ended up having to order extra containers on moving day and even then it wasn't enough to fit all of our stuff, we ended up having to leave a bunch of stuff behind. We paid extra for a certain delivery day, but they kept moving the date out and it was a logistic nightmare having to coordinate with the unloaders.
