PODS® Reviews
The POD company made the delivery of our storage container easy. The person who delivered the POD was prompt, efficient, explained how to best load and secure the pod items, and how to work the lock. He was also very friendly and funny! He made us laugh, which we really appreciated, because we were stressed with moving.
My stuff arrived- just not all in one piece. This is partly to blame on the movers I used to load the pod. The pod’s door also came dented which made rolling it up and down difficult at times especially in the humidity. The pods are also bug and spider friendly so be aware when packing and sealing your items!
Disastrously bad. Do not use PODS. Late to pick up loaded POD, forcing us to go around it to load the Uhaul carrying the things we couldn’t do without. We ended up getting to our new place after midnight, instead of early afternoon. At the new house, they claimed the POD wouldn't fit in the driveway & they couldn't put it on the street without a permit. The Permit Office said PODS should be handling the permit issues, but never do and constantly give their own customers & the Permit Office a terrible time about it. Permit went through & was sent to PODS, but they ignored it & never told us. We learned of this from the Permit Office a day before it would have expired. We had to apply for an extension. It was granted & sent to PODS. We rescheduled delivery. Day of, the driver said we'd need a permit. We told him PODS had been sent one. He didn't have it. His boss insisted he'd never been sent one, said he'd refuse to place our POD without US giving him the permit, even though he’d been sent it twice, then yelled at me until I hung up. I called customer service, & they said they could do absolutely nothing at all. I asked to speak to anyone in charge multiple times. They refused. When I asked one more time, they just said "Okay, have a nice day" and hung up on me while I was still asking for any kind of help whatsoever. We applied for another extension, rescheduled with our movers a SECOND time, & arranged for a third copy of the permit to be sent to PODS. Permit Office also explained to PODS that they needed to print the permit and take care of posting it. The POD arrived and was placed, and the driver did not have a copy of the permit—didn't even ask for one. I asked him about it, & he said "Oh, that's for you to take care of." Fortunately, we had obtained our own physical copy, anticipating something exactly like this, & posted it ourselves. No accountability, no understanding of what their responsibilities are, no customer service skills, no corporate authority or responsibility, no consistency, lying, shouting, general hostility and shocking levels of ignorant incompetence. Avoid PODS at all costs. They are an absolute quagmire of failure and will drag your entire move down into it with them.
POD carrier appeared in good/fair condition. Did not appear to show any water marks/stains, and no leakage. Undercarriage had a few rotted beams but appeared to be durable to handle the load. Drop-off coordinator was very helpful and made sure the POD was moved off the lawn. POD was fully loaded. Would use again for long distance move.
I had problems with them from day one. There is no communication between the people that work in the company. Information doesn't get passed on. Someone dropped the ball on the container for when it was to be dropped off at the place of residence. 4 days later after another conversation with a customer service representative the container finally shows up. Would not recommend this company to anyone if you are looking for a stress free move.
They're a pioneer and are big, but they haven't become lazy and complacent. I'd rate them highly. Very friendly, competent, flexible, communicative. The dropoff and pickup outbound and inbound were done by skilled workers. Happy with every aspect of the move and would recommend them and use them again.
Got my things from TX to WA in good condition. Drivers were very communicative. Only complaint is it took 2 weeks of transit. Customer service was good over the phone but the website is very lacking. It's difficult to do anything without a phone call and at one point half of the website switched to French. Initially they quoted me 1 week of transit, but once I started the actual purchase process they said they needed 2 weeks. Container was larger than I needed, but that's because I left behind all of my large furniture. It was in excellent condition structurally and cosmetically. They sold me a lock, I don't know if there's a way to not buy that from them with the container. They did a good job providing references to moving services to help with the loading/unloading. Overall cost was comparable to a UHaul rental+fuel.
Easy to work with, easy to book. No hidden fees. Guys who picked up and dropped off the pod were MASTERS with the Podzilla spider thing. Was quite beautiful to watch. Anyways, the 8x8 Pod was just enough for my 1-bedroom apt (granted, I didn't have a couch or dining room set. If you have more furniture, would need to increase to a larger size.
They were good in all aspects of the transaction and showed up as promised. However, the local service center in Asheville, NC, advised at the last moment that they could not bring our containers up the road to our home after we had repeatedly asked if this would be a problem when booking the service. This created additional work for us to book alternative transport of our belongings.
Phone staff at Pods were excellent. They made the process easy and were professional in setting up the reservation. Company allows us to move dates around as conditions warrant with easy to use online processes. Drivers were efficient, on time, and followed our directions. Management at regional Pods storage forgot to include a paid for lock for the box, then said it wasn't a big deal-I could just go to the nearest store to pick one up. Inventory control at Pod warehouse lacking. A hassle that I didn't ask for costing Pods an otherwise excellent rating. National Pods staff did compensate for cost of lock and shortcomings of the Birmingham, AL management staff.
Reps on the phone were helpful with every part of the process from making the reservation to the handling of issues that arose during the time we were actively moving. All those who moved our rented pod were professional and on time. They even called me a half hour prior to dropping off or picking up the container-which was in good shape. When other parts of service fell short of what was promised, apologies were given and financial adjustments offered and made. I would use this service again should the need arise.
Every interaction with the company (mainly through their phone operators) has been forthright and straightforward. The operators were invariably cheerful and polite. The service cost what they said it would. The pods were delivered, picked up, and transported when they said they would be. The pods were clean and the drivers I watched were careful and efficient. I have not yet scheduled the final delivery, so I cannot speak to any damage that may have occurred in transit, but I have my fingers crossed. At this point, I will definitely use PODS for my next move.
PODS was pretty easy to use for this move. We moved 500 miles away and got the 16 foot container for our 2 bedroom apartment. The POD came on a truck and double parked on the street for our 4 hour load time. Booking was super easy over the phone and they have a customer portal so you can see everything later and make updates if you need to. The day of the move, the driver was very friendly and called when he was en route, when he arrived, and when I had an hour left on the load time. We are storing our stuff for now while we finish securing our new place so even the storage options with POD is great. Just make sure to have your own lock for the container and take a pic of your container number (our guy was out of tags - but this is a smart move regardless)
