PODS® Reviews
The pod showing up and getting picked up worked fine but the rest is a nightmare. I have three accounts and have had 7 drivers call to say they are dropping a pod which I didn't order and was not on my account. They charged me $1000 for someone else's job and I still haven't gotten a credit. I do like the idea but the fallow thru is bad.
We had various problems with getting the PODS in the time frame needed. From the beginning I explained our situation, which was a little unusual, in the initial phone call. Part of the reason I chose them was their storage locations were the best for us. They were close to both houses, both the one we were leaving and the new home, in the event we had to access the containers for some reason. We agreed upon pricing, which was OK. I got THEIR recommendations for what we needed (number of containers). They had recommended 2 – 16 foot containers for our size house, basing it on square footage, number of rooms, etc. I made arrangements, confirmed, and we got started. In the middle of the move of our belongings, they stopped doing their job. Two pods weren’t even close to being sufficient. About a week before the actual move, when we were packing up, we learned we needed a third container which PODS then said they couldn’t deliver until AFTER the move/settlement date. This does us no good. The people on the front line were personable enough and tried to do what they could but it required somewhat more. The next level customer service managers were no help at all. I made a couple, different suggestions which seemed realistic and solved the problems without undue hardship for PODS. It required only a small degree of thinking outside the box. They refused, as this was not “routine”. Their only solution was to drop off and pick up the container AFTER we were no longer owners of or in the home. After days of calls and conversations with PODS, we ended up hiring ANOTHER trucking company to FINISH the job. POD’s refusal to finish in a timely manner caused additional confusion, problems and expense. PODS had more than a week for getting us a POD/solution. Finding a truck, helpers, etc. happened in only days when PODs fell through. Why couldn’t they do it? They were collecting thousands of our dollars. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM. They created such problems for us which we never did quite clear up. DO NOT USE PODS. It took us days of phone calls, speaking with multiple people, giving them the solutions and still we ended up with nothing. The condition of the containers themselves was acceptable. Because of the type of doors they have on the back of the containers (roll up type), they can get stuck. We had to store the POD for a period of time. We went to access it at one point. They had it situated and stored at an angle, which caused the items inside to move. Then we couldn't get the doors open. They came and shook it and tilted it a number of times. We finally got the doors open. If they were regular, open- out doors we would not have had a problem. Then we had the problem with getting the door open a second time when we were to empty the pod at the new house. Again they had to shake and tilt the container. I was told that, at some point, something got stuck in the roller top of the door; perhaps from the shaking and tilting, we don't know. After 2 different attempts to un-stick the door, they had to physically saw it open with an electric saw. Many of our belongings got damaged in the shaking and tilting. Almost every piece of furniture was scratched or scraped, glass broken, etc. even with moving blankets, ropes, etc. We did not get insurance. Thought the contact with them would be minimal and we wouldn't need it. We learned two things about moving. Most importantly, 1. DON'T USE PODS. 2. GET INSURANCE WITH ANY COMPANY YOU USE for any period of time.
