Penske® Reviews
Very happy with Penske. Since they reserve a truck for you and guarantee that you'll get the size truck you reserve, they were the obvious choice – I didn't want to be stuck with a bigger, more expensive truck than I needed. I did purchase the limited damage waiver insurance, and I am glad I did – although I don't think there was any damage to the truck, I appreciated the peace of mind that came with having that coverage (and everything I found online said that is one type of insurance that is worth paying for). Used a 15' truck with car carrier.
I have used Penske for interstate moves before. They always have something for every budget and this time we were able to get one of the newer 26' foot trucks (only had like 4,000 miles on it!). Biggest difference? This truck took diesel fuel and had air brakes. However, as always, they were polite, offered suggestions and ultimatly made our stressful move just that much easier!
I rented a 16-foot box truck from Penske. The truck was ready at the pick-up location, Storage King USA on E Olive Rd, Pensacola at the appointed time and checkout was easy and fast. The staff at Storage King was pleasant and ready to assist in completing my rental and quickly got me on my way; same on my return. This rental from Penske and Storage King was substantially cheaper than U-Haul.
Overall, an ok experience, but it could have been much better. When picking up the truck, I had to wait about 30 minutes while the representative "watched" another Penske truck get a auto transport trailer hooked up to it. I didn't see the need for that person to just stand there watching while telling us to wait. All the time, I've got hired help back home just waiting for the truck to arrive. Then, on the return of the truck at a Home Depot, the Home Depot asked us for our pre-rental damage report. Looked around and couldn't find one and the Home Depot said they couldn't do anything without it. So, had to drive 45 minutes back home, look around, no luck in finding, then travel back to the Depot. I showed them an email on my phone and said "that's all I got". They were totally unprepared for this, but went ahead and accepted the return anyway. The problem is that the Penske pick up location has gone "all digital", and the Home Depot is still using paper. This cost me 2 hours of unnecessary travel time + gas cost. Penske needs to get all of their partners on the same page. The truck had an alignment problem where it pulled to the right. It wasn't bad when driving the truck empty, but once loaded, the pull was significant and I had to fight it for 9 straight hours.
