U-Haul® Reviews
I rented a 26 ft. truck with a trailer on the back to transport my pickup. The truck was very clean. Both the Customer Service person who booked the truck for me and the person at David's Automotive where I picked it up were very helpful. Drop off went smooth also. I would use U-Haul again if needed.
Truck worked well for us (although in retrospect it was not big enough). Only problem was that our origninal reservation was changed so that we had to drive 30-40 miles to pick it up instead of 2-3 miles which we had scheduled with our reservation. Otherwise pick up and delivery of truck went well and aside from guzzling gasoline, the truck worked well for us.
This was a tough move logistically. We rented a truck that was too small (our fault) and had to scramble for a second truck. U-Haul was very helpful in everything from arranging trucks to showing us how to hook up and use the car transport. Best move I've had with them (and I've done this a bunch of times before)
This company told me 14 hours before my move that they had overbooked and wouldn’t have a truck for me. What’s worse is that I had to call THEM to figure this out, 6pm the night before my move. If I hadn’t called to confirm my details, I would have been showing up for my truck rental with no truck to be found and totally unprepared. After finding a family member to lend their pickup truck, we managed to get everything from Quincy to Brighton in one trip with four vehicles (the pickup truck and three moderately sized cars) and with no help from uhaul. I’ve used this service multiple times in the past with no issue, but I will never use them again. I still cannot believe nothing was done to help the situation, and that apparently no one was even going to let me know I wouldn’t have a truck. I would give no stars if I could.
U haul let me down on several items: - I was promised a hassle free and no wait pick-up if I checked in online which I did. I even pre-paid. However, I had to wait 30 minutes at site to re-check in. - Headlamps of truck (driver side) was not functional - was flickering and was not aligned. Result, I could not drive in evenings and early morning - which delayed my move and increased my cost of trip. - Truck was not serviced - had its engine oil lamp on and was really dirty inside. I believe it slowed my trip and obviously I had to spend time cleaning it inside. - U Haul roadside assistance is no good, each time I called to help with issues, you have to wait 60-70 minutes before you can speak with someone and it will take about 90 minutes for someone to come. I stopped at U haul depot, and they could not do anything. The roadside assistance guy who came said he did not have authorization from U haul to change the headlamp. Not sure if I want to rent U Haul again - their trucks are not at all comfortable, have significantly less than advertised gas mileage (7-8 miles to a gallon instead of 10 promised) - perhaps, because they are not serviced as needed, are not at all clean and their A/C system smells of engine oil. In all not good for a long haul - I had read that U haul really are concerned about their customers and their safety, however, I do not believe so. They blame it on their dealers - for cleanness, service items etc.
