We have had a lot of experience with relocating our household. We have done our own loading/unloading on some of the moves, and have hired professionals for others. In all those moves, there was very little to no damage to our belongings. Unfortunately, this is the first time I have to file an insurance claim for damage.
The crew were all personable, and seemed to be knowledgeable. We talked about the importance of loading up to the ceiling to save space, plus we were using ABF freight trailers, which have a harder ride than regular moving vans, and would require more care. (We had a pro crew load an ABF trailer for a previous Boise to St George move, with zero damage) After loading for awhile, they reported our goods would take up about 14" of space, which was great, as you pay for the space used on ABF trailers. As it turned out, they used 20" of space, which drove the cost up, as well as needing 4 hours to load instead of the 3 that had been contracted.
On the unloading end, the crew were very surprised that there was so much unutilized space on top. As they proceeded to unload, they were uncomfortable with what they were seeing. I took many photos of a sloppily loaded trailer, with items clearly marked as fragile sitting in the middle or bottom of a tall stack of boxes. The unloading crew mentioned several times how heavy boxes were placed on top of lightweight boxes that could have easily been placed on top to save space. I have never seen so many crushed and damaged boxes after a move. As we got further back into the trailer, we saw heavy, hard surface furniture placed on top of upholstered furniture. One of the cushions from our almost new leather sofa had been used to cushion another piece of furniture, which left a dent and a large stain. In all, most of the furniture showed some kind of damage.
The crew were also very surprised that it took 3 people 4 hours to load the van.
We are disappointed with our experience with Oregon Trails. I couldn't help but feel disrespected as I was seeing how carelessly our belongings had been treated, especially after paying over $1000 for a professional service.

Mover's response:
Mark we are very regretful that you did not receive our usual A+ Service. I will reach out to offer a partial refund for the mistakes we did make. A few things, respectfully, in our defense: Your unloading crew wasn't there to experience the very high quantity of un-stackable items and chaotic orders of operations we had to maneuver. There was A LOT of congestion in your home. There was a lot of "chowder" (outdoor items, brambly garden stuff, ladders, hoses, garage misc, etc/etc). I have photos of the job and of the load and I'm seeing a lot of clutter. Also your initial estimate from ABF was closer to 24ft and we got it all in 20ft. I will admit that things could've been loaded with more care which would have required even more time and the crew did say that they felt rushed. I also admit that I had to send less experienced loaders all the way to Klammath Falls on that hot day while I had to cover another big job. You tipped each of them and seemed happy with the service at the time. But I do see and will own the mistakes made by our company. Super respectfully, Nick

The best movers we've had. They were right on time, very efficient and strategic. They were right on time, professional, and worked incredibly fast without compromising the safety of our belongings. They were incredibly efficient that we saved so much space in the trailer and saved money. I highly recommend them!

They were on time, friendly, hard working, careful, knowledgeable, and efficient. I'm moving out of state, but if I wasn't, I'd definitely hire them again.

They were on time, just after the window opened. They were prepared, and had all necessary equipment for heavy lifting. They emptied a totally full 28 foot trailer with three very heavy items in four hours, and were sure to place all items in rooms as requested. I would certainly hire them again! Shout out to Matt J, Liam M, Josiah D, and Joey P, who were friendly, respectful, and worked really hard to make this house my home.

These guys are awesome! They are very professional yet personal. They are efficient, organized, and are truly seasoned movers. They packed the POD very securely leaving extra room for more items to be added at the end. I was intrigued by how easily they moved large and cumbersome items. Moving is a stressful time and I felt confident I was in good hands. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to my friends.

Get To Know Us

What can a customer expect after booking with you?

Customers will receive a follow up confirmation email upon booking. They will also receive a courtesy call the day before the move to confirm details and to inquire about any changes as is often the case with moving. Of course, at any time prior to your move you can contact Hire-A-Helper or speak with us directly with any changes or questions about your move. Friendly answers to questions are just a call away!

What can a customer expect on moving day if they hire you?

Our crews will arrive with all the specified equipment needed to complete your job as discussed and arranged previously with our staff. For every job they arrive with Tools, Dollys, Heavy Liftings Straps, Floor Runners for protection, Shrink Wrap & Moving Blankets, Tie Down Straps and more. If specified they will bring a variety of other equipment for Pianos, Hot Tubs etc.

How should a customer prepare for moving day?

Small and fragile items should be wrapped and boxed. Labeling boxes for your identification as well as the movers is always helpful at the other end. If you can stack boxes and arrange them so the movers are able to get to them with the Dollys this will save time and money. Stacks should be chest high and allowance for the movers to get to them should be made. Clear pathways for the movers, secure pets and children and near&dear items (medications, passports, etc)

What types of moves have you handled?

We do all types of moving; Local, Long Distance, Office & Industrial. We are a Labor Moving Service. We do not provide or drive trucks. We specialize in container moves i.e. PODS, ABF, U-Pack, U-Box, & Pack Rat. Our customers also rent and drive their own trucks as well as rental moving trucks i.e. U-Haul, Penske, Enterprise, Budget, etc.

What's your favorite part about being a mover?

I am proud to be a native Oregonian. I was raised on a small cattle farm in Ashland. My Parents were full time teachers and farmers and showed me the fundamentals of hard work and perseverance. I thoroughly enjoy this business. From interacting with our customers to find solutions for their needs, and getting out and assisting our crews in the field.  I look forward to meeting you and helping you along your way!

What training do you provide your crew members?

Safety is always #1 ! Every Oregon Trail Mover starts as a helper and follows experienced crew leads and undergos rigorous training protocol processes at our headquarters. Each crew member is first evaluated for their individual talents and abilities in order to assess where they may be utilized most effectively on our team whether that be packing and wrapping, detailed inventory with computer skills, or the ability to lift heavy weight repeatedly for hours on end.
