UPDATE: What I originally thought was a job well done has turned out to be a very deceptive maneuver from this service. I instructed the two packers on the way I wanted my belongings packed and watched them for a bit to see if they understood what I wanted done and were doing it to my satisfaction. They were, so I left them working on my dining room and kitchen stuff, and went to pack some personal belongings. I didn’t want the boxes closed or taped because I needed to list the items and number of boxes per room and how I wanted them loaded on my inventory sheet. On Tuesday this week was the first time that I noticed something was wrong when I began to close and tape the boxes shut. Several boxes had been over packed to the point that I could not even close them completely to tape shut. I had to remove a lot of kitchen items, assemble new boxes, and repack the excess items into other boxes before I could tape and closed the kitchen item boxes. About four were over packed and one was so heavy that I could not even push it from where it sat. The U-Haul boxes clearly say to make sure that the sides don’t bulge out and that the tops can be completely closed. Only a few boxes, the initial ones that I watched them pack, were able to be closed completely and were not over-packed or heavy. After finding this disaster, I began closely checking the other boxes that I did not watch being packed. My glassware was not completely wrapped in the foam glass/dish covers and pouches I had given them to use, so many of those items had to be redone. Stuffed in the bottom of one box was part of a picture insert that holds large pictures in place inside the box . So apparently all of the straps to secure and stabilize my wall hangings were not used. I had to open those boxes and put the unused straps on the items to secure them properly inside the picture boxes. I tried reaching the owner of Heavy Foot, Joe, and when he finally responded his reply was very nasty, telling me that “I should have watched what they were doing”. Well if I had known that they were dishonest people that would do a half assed job once I left the room, I would have. Additionally, one of the guys that day, wanted to know if I would be using that company for the actual move. Originally I had planned on doing so until I discovered what poor packing they had done. In any case, I was told to call Joe directly and not to go through Hire A Helper to book the loading service to get a “reduced price”. After finding the mess these guys left behind, I would not let them load my garbage can, much less my belongings. When I advised Hire A Helper of the mess and what I had been told about booking directly with Joe at Heavy Foot, I was advised of two things. One it’s against Heavy Foot’s contract to book jobs from customers that Hire A Helper has provided AND if I had done so and anything happened to my property I would not have any recourse to file a claim. DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY THESE SCAMMERS, DECEITFUL, AND DISHONEST PROVIDER - HEAVY FOOT MOVERS. It appeared initially that they had packed very good and saved me money by being able to return the extra boxes. Well now I know WHY I had so many boxes left. Thank goodness I had not returned them yet.
