It was a hot and humid day, but the two loaders arrived within the time period given (11:00 a.m.), along with a wife/partner and her two year old toddler. Prior to the visit I had called and was assured that they had a lot of experience and that they would be able to view what we had to load, and strategize how to do it. Loading day came. We had many moving pads, shrink wrap rolls, bungies and ratchet straps - more than enough. The first disaster came when we pointed out a 19th century bureau which was large but fragile and asked that it be handled carefully. The one loader picked it up by himself without any wrapping or anything, took it outside and promptly dropped it breaking a leg off the bureau. Loading continued. We asked that moving pads be used and items secured with the ratchet straps. They said everything would be fine and continued moving boxes and furniture into the POD, occasionally using shrink wrap, but no tie-downs and very few of the moving pads. The first POD was filled and had taken about 1.5 hours. I bought lunch for everyone who wanted it including the wife and toddler. Filling the second POD ensued. It was very hot.
It came to the point where things were pretty much just getting tossed into the second POD and they were obviously anxious to leave as it was now 1:30. They then announced they couldn't get anything else in the POD and needed the payment and had to leave. We paid. My friend (68) and I (73) then unloaded almost the entire second POD and spent the next 4 hours until 5:30 reloading it (plenty of room and then some) and tying things in and securing them. When the PODs arrived at my new home we were able to open the second POD, which we had loaded, and everything was in good shape. When the second POD was delivered we could not open the door as the load had shifted, and bent the door. PODS came to the rescue 2 days later and managed to open the door without cutting it off. Every piece of wood furniture was damaged or broken with the exception of four pieces which we insisted have moving pads on them. Plus we had to hold all of the furniture in place, and unload very carefully, to avoid getting crushed as nothing had been tied down as we asked.
This was a really bad experience, but I have to put it behind me. It has cost me a lot, including valuable antique family heirlooms, that can never be replaced. Lesson learned, don't use Hire a Helper or this company ever again.

Guys showed up early, assessed the job, and then executed as we needed. They worked hard and found a way to get a refrigerator down one floor, which wasn't easy.
