These guys were awesome! We originally had another company that was supposed to come out and at 3 in the morning I got a notice that I was canceled and move to a different day. I called hire a helper and they connected us with this group. They were there in 3 hours and got us packed up in 1 hour and on the road. I would highly recommend Hard Body Haulers and definitely would use them again. They arrived early and we're ready to start immediately. They worked very quickly and we're very thorough. Both gentlemen extremely professional and did an excellent job. I had five quotes to choose a company from, after reading the reviews and meeting them in person I knew I had made the right choice. I added two additional things to my original list of things I needed done and they were very willing to accommodate. I'm definitely very very pleased and again would definitely use this particular company again.
I ordered 4 movers for 4 hours to move a 2BR first floor apartment 10 miles down the road to a single story ranch. They had to stop off at the apartment first, then to a storage unit, then to the house. I drove the truck.
I called a few weeks before I scheduled the move and confirmed that the dollies, furniture movers, straps and blankets were all included. The man who answered said yes they were, just so long as I didn't need any tape or other packing supplies. I made my reservation for the movers 1 month before I moved. The Hire a Helper email said I would be contacted by Hard Body Haulers within 48 hours to confirm the details. I did not receive a phone call. Ok, no big deal. 2 days before the move I called HBH and confirmed the details. Later that night I got a call from them asking if they could start an hour earlier, which I was fine with. I assumed they had another gig after mine. Again, no big deal.
Despite the request to start early (requested 9 am), they showed up around 9:45am. They brought an extra helper with them at no cost to me, which I thought was great. They worked quickly, which I was appreciative of because I thought 4 hours might not be enough. When we packed all the furniture from the apartment, I asked about blankets. The response was "Well they got wet so we will need to get you more". The conversation ended there, no blankets were had. As I previously mentioned, I asked if they had straps to secure everything. HBH said they did, but they used standard bungee cords, and only 2 or 3 at that, to hold in 2 beds, a desk, bedframes, futon, etc. I was not pleased as I had to drive close to 8 miles with unsecured items. And they brought no appliance movers. Only 1 furniture dolly and that was it.
When we arrived at the storage unit, they again moved fast. However, they did a poor job of packing the truck. They filled the truck out, not up, and in the end they needed to cram a workbench up against my washer and dryer using only broken down cardboard boxes for protection. Based on the amount of items I moved to the house by myself in the days leading up to the move, they should have had NO problem fitting everything into a 26 foot truck. It was 2 feet longer than the one I had used previously.
The unpacking was probably the most frustrating part of my experience. Again, they moved quickly (they did everything in 2.5 hours, and unfortunately I was still required to pay the full $490. C'est la vie) but they did damage some of my items. We are still unpacking but thus far the futon mattress is effectively ruined. They dragged it along the dirty floor of the truck (nothing underneath it and it's white) and it is now dirty, disgusting and full of wood splinters on 1 end. They removed my door but dinged the doorframe trying to get the door hinge pins out. I watched 2 guys drop my front load washing machine down 3 or 4 steps due to a miscommunication -- one let go thinking it was on the step, and it dropped down to the steps and slid on it's face and received damage. There was some damage to walls, corners, and doorframes.
All the movers were pleasant, but I will not use them (or Hire a Helper) again for that matter. Hard Body Haulers had maybe 1 guy that knew what he was doing, and the other 4 were just his friends that came along as muscle. They were not professional movers. From here on out I will go with Mayflower or Allied, or a similar company. It will be worth the money to have the experience. I give HBH maybe a 2.5 out of 5.
