Key Takeaways

  • SmartProtection is optional add-on coverage: designed to protect your stuff if movers accidentally damage something during loading or unloading
  • Every HireAHelper booking already includes baseline protection: the $1,000 Service Guarantee covers no-shows and other service failures even without SmartProtection
  • Covered: accidental damage during loading and unloading: including items being moved into or out of your home, truck, or storage container
  • Not covered: in-transit damage, pre-existing wear, and high-value items: like electronics, jewelry, or collectibles — read the terms before assuming everything qualifies
  • If something gets damaged, act fast: flag it while the movers are still on-site, take photos with a short description, then call (866) 949-2492 or file online

First Things First: What’s Already Included

When booking with HireAHelper, you already have built in protection that stacks with SmartProtection. Here’s what you get any time you move with HireAHelper:

  • Our $1,000 Service Guarantee: If your movers don’t show or don’t follow through, and the issue can’t be resolved, we’ll step in to make it right.
  • Standard Repair Coverage: Basic coverage that pays up to $0.60 per pound for any item damaged while movers are loading or unloading your things.

What Is SmartProtection?

SmartProtection is optional coverage that helps protect your stuff if it gets accidentally damaged while the movers are handling it—that means during loading or unloading, not while it’s on the road in a truck or container. It has much higher limits than the standard repair coverage, and you get to choose your coverage tier.

Note: SmartProtection isn’t insurance. It’s a coverage benefit we offer directly as part of HireAHelper’s platform, and is administered by Porch Moving Group.

Your Options

Here’s what SmartProtection costs and covers:

Coverage TierPriceDeductible
$2,500 per service$19$50
$5,000 per service$29$100
$10,000 per service$41$100

You can add SmartProtection anytime before your move starts, and if you cancel before the movers show up, you’ll get a full refund.

What’s Covered (and What’s Not)

Covered:

  • Accidental damage during loading or unloading
  • Items being moved into or out of your home, truck, or storage container

Not Covered:

  • Damage that happens in transit
  • Pre-existing damage or everyday wear and tear
  • Electronics, jewelry, or collectibles worth over $1,000
  • Fragile or improperly packed items
  • Weather-related damage (rain, heat, humidity, etc.)
  • Damage caused by lithium batteries

If Something Goes Wrong

Here’s what to do if something gets damaged:

  1. Let us know right away—while the movers are still there
  2. Take photos and write a short description
  3. We’ll review it in good faith and as quickly as possible

To start your claim, call us at (866) 949-2492 or email us at: claims@hireahelper.com.

If your claim is approved, we’ll either:

  • Repair the item
  • Replace it with something similar
  • Provide reimbursement based on your coverage tier and the current value of the item
