They left behind some of my good furniture which I wanted to take with me.

I was not impressed by their coworker’s performance. He was spending more time on the phone than work . I am paying by the hour.

I'll start by saying I've waited a week to write this so I could be more objective, since I was so frustrated by my experience with Smart Move, LLC.
I booked them to move my 1BR apartment to another 1 BR just over a mile away. I've moved about 6 times in the last 10 years, and those moves all took under 4 hours, so their rates seemed reasonable. They were set to arrive between 9 and 10 am on Friday morning. That morning, Hire A Helper let me know it would be closer to 10, but 10 came and went with no sign of them. At 10:15, they finally called to say they'd be there at 10:35.
Everything was ready to go in storage bags, totes, or boxes, I don't have a ton of furniture, and I'd disassembled the bed frame prior to their arrival, so I thought this would be a pretty quick load. I was wrong. By the end of hour 2 (the time I'd prepaid for) they hadn't even started loading furniture. I'm dealing with foot and back injuries at the moment and had given them a fob for the elevator, so I wasn't following them as they moved stuff down to the truck, but there was definitely no sense of urgency at all. As we approached the end of hour 4, I started telling them to leave certain things, because it would be faster for me to make multiple trips in my own small car than it would be to wait for them to load the stuff.
They finally made it over to the new place at 3:00 pm and, despite having exclusive access to the freight elevator and multiple additional carts, it took them another 2 hours to unload the truck. I'd instructed them to just stack everything in the middle of the living room, because I hoped that would be faster than directing them to put things in different rooms. They didn't complete the job until 5:15 pm, at which point I was hit with the charges for the additional time.
In total, it took 6.5 hours and I was charged $1400, in addition to being left scrambling to complete my final tasks on the other end, since I also then had to move multiple loads of stuff in my own car before I could finish cleaning and complete my move-out over there.
At no point during the day was I notified of any issues that would be causing delays, and the only time I was given any sort of update on the process/timeline was when I asked directly how long it usually takes to unload the truck. I certainly don't expect movers to be running the whole time, but when you're making personal calls or watching videos on your phone while you're working, it doesn't seem that you're taking my time very seriously, and definitely gives the impression that you're trying to run up the clock.
As I've unpacked, I've found a few damaged boxes, storage bags that were unloaded upside down, and an orange-brown substance (can't tell if it's dirt or rust) that's dripped onto some of my furniture. These are minor in the grand scheme of things, but feel completely unacceptable given the amount of time and money it took to complete this job. Overall, this was the worst experience I've ever had with a moving crew, and I hope no one else has to deal with this type of service during what's usually already a stressful time in their lives.

On the 29th of July we needed help moving my daughter and son-in-law out of an apartment in Spring Hill Tennessee. I spent a lot of time looking for experienced movers with good reviews and I landed on HireAHelper.
