I recently had a very upsetting and misleading experience with Robinson Moving and Hauling Service, booked through the HireAHelper platform. Before booking, I called the company four separate times to verify the cost. I was repeatedly told that the quoted rate—$85 per hour for two helpers—covered both loading and unloading at two different locations. I asked multiple times to confirm this, and each time their representative said “yes, the price covers both places.”
Because of that information, when the total showed up as $448, it seemed reasonable to me. I was expecting about 2 hours at each location for two helpers, so the amount matched what I believed I was paying for.
However, on the actual loading day, the mover suddenly said he was only booked for 2 hours of loading only and that he would not go to the second location to unload the truck. This completely contradicted everything I had been told on the phone. He also refused to show me what he was “seeing on his end,” and it felt like he waited until the last moment to take advantage of us—knowing we had no one else available to help.
When I called the company again, they claimed their price “starts at $300,” which was never mentioned to me during any of the calls, nor was it stated during booking. All I was ever told was $85 per hour for two helpers, with no extra charges for unloading.
Although the workers loaded the truck well, the pricing and communication were very misleading, and the situation seemed like an intentional attempt to overcharge the customer. Because of this, I would not use HireAHelper again, and I would not recommend Robinson Moving and Hauling Service.
The situation became even more stressful because I was moving with my 3-year-old son, and since they refused to unload the truck as originally promised, we were left with no help on the other side. This caused unnecessary hardship and felt like a result of unethical and greedy business practices
