Smooth Movers called me the night before my move to confirm it. So I went to bed thinking all was well but it was not ok. Long story short they were a no-show day of the move.
They called halfway through the arrival window to say they would be there in 20 minutes. That was the last time we ever heard from them. 40 minutes I called them and got their voice mail. I tried calling them 30 after that and again got their voicemail.
I then called Hire A Helper who somehow managed to get ahold of them. Smooth Movers claimed they showed up no one was there so they left. The funny thing is they made no attempt to call us again and refused to answer their phone. They told Hire A Helper they then had to move on to another job. I think they ditched us after they double booked. DON'T USE THEM!

The first hour, the movers were on their phone and not very productive. The first hour caused me to have to keep them an additional hour to get my items moved into my place. The owner came later and they were more productive in his presence. He didn’t charge me for the additional hour as I ended up using them for four hours instead of two.

The team that was sent worked well together, were professional and did not waste one minute of time. They were very polite and I enjoyed spending time with them. I would recommend them and plan to use them for the big move coming up soon!

The two men who showed up were both very nice and respectful. However, they showed up with no dolly, lifting equipment, and it was apparent they did not know how to pack a U-Haul. Things were just haphazardly placed and they were very slow at that. They did not make use of the provided furniture pads either. Overall, nice guys but not efficient movers.

The guys who came to help me load and unload my moving truck were great (From Smooth Movers - Mr. Vick and Mr. Jimmy)- very efficient and friendly, professional, willing to work and had a system down that worked for them. Packed the truck well - I didn't have any damaged items in the move - smart packers.
My complaint is with the payment system - I requested 4 hours ahead of time because I wasn't sure how quickly we would be done with everything. Well, we finished loading and unloading in 3 hours instead of 4. I tipped each of them and would have regardless of how long they had been there. I had to pay for 4 hours even though there just 3 hours of work done and when I read the small print - I wouldn't get my money back for the last hour. They charge you for the day before. Apparently, charging you for what you pre-booked is the amount you pay for. Which, I don't understand. Why should I have to pay for an hour of labor that I didn't get? If I had to do it over again, I would go straight to Smooth Movers instead of hiring through hire a helper to avoid the extra fees.
