I moved from an efficiency apartment into a second floor two bedroom apartment. I hired 2 movers for 2 hours, only to unload.
My movers were two guys in their late teens who seemed to have very little experience with moving. They showed up 20 minutes past the end of the arrival window. Fortunately, my son and I had about 1/3 of the truck unloaded before they arrived. I had to show them how to maneuver larger items up the stairs and around corners, they damaged some of my furniture and the walls to my new apartment.
I asked their manager, who arrived about halfway through the time, if they usually use dollies and other equipment. She told me that U-Haul should have provided all the equipment.
I am glad that these kids are working, but they desperately need training and basic mover's equipment.
At times, they each carried a single, lightweight (3-15 pound) item up the stairs when mutliples could have easily been managed.
My nephew moved recently and hired movers who were strong, hard working, and efficient, so that's what I was expecting. My son and I did the vast majority of the work, which my new landlord even commented about.
They were here for the 1 1/2 hours before all was unloaded. Thank God my son came, even though I'd told him he would not be needed.
So, yes, I am glad these kids are working, but I certainly cannot recommend them at this point.
