Kymar Barnes from Lakeview Movers in Eatontown, NJ was contracted by HireAHelper to unload my 26’ truck of furniture into a storage space. He had shown up earlier in the day to load the same truck, however for that he was hired by SML - Simple Moving Labor in Fort Worth, TX. (See review of SML - Simple Moving Labor).
Unbeknownst to me, he showed up to unload the truck, creating the perfect storm. He knew I had a 26’ truck which needed to be unloaded in time to return the truck early the next morning. He saw he was dealing with an 80 year old women and her daughter. He demanded to be paid much more than we originally agreed upon, in cash. Under duress, I agreed to pay, at which time he opened the truck’s back door exposing all of my furniture. He then demanded I also pay him in cash the portion of the move which I had already paid to HireAHelper, which I told him was impossible for me. Kymar refused to close the heavy door of truck and left it open in the rain. When I couldn’t pull down the door and lock it, I called Hire A Helper, and despite them claiming they told him he couldn’t leave until he closed it, he absconded, leaving me and my 80 year old mother stranded late at night with a 26’ truck full of furniture, in the rain. Much of my furniture is wet and destroyed.
I contacted HireAHelper immediately. I spoke with Jasmine several times. She ‘apologized for the inconvenience’. She contacted a last minute mover to come out the following day, and actually offered me $89.98, which is nothing compared to my extra cost, lost work and unsurmountable stress they caused, yet it did not appear on my invoice.
The move was scheduled to be completed that evening, but ended up taking an entire extra day. I had to close down my office, rent the truck for an extra day, and scramble to find new movers at the last minute. Hire A Helper DOES NOT HIRE PROFESSIONAL MOVERS, and DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS.
