Labor-Only vs. The Traditional Move

When most people think of a moving company, they picture a full-service crew that loads, drives, and unloads everything. This is known as local full-service.

Labor-only moving works differently. You handle the transportation—like a rental truck or PODS container—and we connect you with professional movers to load or unload your stuff.

While labor-only requires a bit more work on your end to coordinate all the details, it’s considerably less expensive.

Prefer hands-off? If you’d rather skip the driving and prioritize convenience, you can book a vetted full-service moving company right through HireAHelper.

The Cost of Moving in Galveston, TX

In Galveston labor-only moving help typically costs between $360.25 and $458.19.

If you’re tackling a smaller job, like unloading a PODS-style container, moving into a storage unit, or just need help with the heavy lifting, you can hire hourly moving labor for around $73.63 an hour.

The Cost of Labor-Only vs. Local-Full Service

Even after factoring in the cost of a rental truck, gas, and supplies, labor-only moving usually costs less than half of what you’d pay for local full-service. Full-service is definitely more convenient—but that convenience comes at a price.

The 2 movers who showed up were on time and were pleasant to work with. They didn’t waste any time and thought about how to maximize the placement of items in my UHaul UBoxes. I’d definitely recommend they 2 guys who were assigned to me.

These guys were absolutely amazing! I was seriously afraid my stuff wouldn't fit but they reassured me multiple times that it would. And everything fit! They were masters of packing. It was also raining hard during our move and they worked to ensure that my stuff was in the rain as little as possible. They were polite, prepared and worked really hard for us. I would give them 10 stars out of 5.

They communicated well with me. Ismaila Diene was the leader. He communicated well with his crew. Each person worked hard and was careful with our items. They packed expertly, carefully, and quickly. I would recommend them to anyone. They were respectful and pleasant to my wife. When it started raining they were sure to get all items to a dry area.
