HireAHelper's Review Of Rent A Vet Movers - A Local Saint Charles Moving Company

We have booked loads and unloads through Hire-a-Helper several times, so we have a lot of experience working with movers. This company did not have any reviews on Hire-a-Helper yet, but we decided to give them a shot anyway. The name intrigued us since we are a military family, love to support our veterans, and their direct website made them appear to be a great company. We hired them to unload a 26 ft moving van for us. I can say they did arrive on time and were dressed appropriately for the job, so that was one plus. But they were not overly friendly and didn't make eye contact as I was talking to them. I got the feeling they were not listening, as they were often walking away while I was still talking. They didn't seem to plan well or communicate with each other well when carrying heavy pieces. And they worked slowly. We've done several moves and these were the slowest movers we've encountered. And after having worked only an hour, they took a smoke and cell phone break. Also, we provided dollies for them to use, which they only used part of the time...they seemed to find it easier to throw my boxes around...and used a regular dolly to bring the refrigerator in and up two steps instead of using the appliance dolly, which would have made that job much easier. They complained about the heat and about our packing job and about how heavy my couch and love seat were. They did not offer to take the pads off any of our furniture, but just brought it into the house all wrapped up. Several times I saw them drop boxes instead of placing them gently down. They piled boxes and totes precariously with larger, heavier things on top of smaller things. One box had arrived crushed (not their fault, of course)...instead of setting it aside to protect it from more damage, they just piled more heavy boxes on top of it. It seemed like the closer to the end, they more careless they got. But I was happy that when we were close to that 2 hour mark, they stepped it up so that we would not have to pay for the extra hour. I really wanted to be able to give Rent a Vet good reviews because I love to support our former military, but I cannot recommend them due to their carelessness with my stuff and their slow speed. I don't know if it's a lack of experience or a lack of work ethic....either way, they need to work on a few things. I hope they will work on this and improve, because I think the idea of a company of all veterans is wonderful.
