The Cost of Moving Services in Milwaukee, WI

Hourly labor and flat-rate moving fees in Milwaukee are based on distance, load size, and requested services. You might pay more for top-floor moves or if movers have to park far from your door.

A full-service moving company handles loading, transport, and unloading—but that convenience usually comes at a bit of a higher cost. If you’re on a tighter budget, labor-only movers cover the heavy lifting while you just handle the transportation.

On time all 3, supervisor was early. Yes, prepared. Yes, they worked hard. Respectful of my property for the most part. However, during the middle of the move, there was a bit of discrepancy amongst the movers & seems one got a little upset, then he started dropping some of my items. He did apologize but it happened several times. Yes, I would use them again.

Real Advice from Milwaukee Movers

We asked local movers about what you should know about moving in Milwaukee. (They’re really nice!)

"When traveling with a larger sized rental truck, I recommend that you take the freeway as close to your move location as you can before driving through the city. Rush hour (9am and 5pm) can be particularly heavy in Milwaukee county so it may be easier for you to chose for your truck check out time to be an hour before those times if you are not comfortable driving a large truck in heavy traffic. Lastly, I recommend using Uhaul truck rentals because they are the most likely to be available at any given time."

Shield Moving Services Profile Image - Shield Moving Services

"If moving downtown, it's easiest to TRY to block a space for your moving truck as near to your apartment complex as possible. Some apartments require you to reserve a time to block off elevators (if available) so call ahead to find out if this is necessary! "

Tip 1: Make Your Home Move-In Ready

Make your new home move-in ready with a deep clean from local housekeeping services like Bella Shine or Milwaukee Cleaning Crew, which specialize in cleaning services for residential moves. If you haven't sold your current home yet or want to ensure you get your rental deposit back, consider scheduling a move-out cleaning through these companies.

Tip 2: Declutter Before Moving Day in Milwaukee

Lighten your load and save on moving costs by donating unused items before the big day. In Milwaukee, Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts furniture, appliances, and more, while Goodwill of Southeastern Wisconsin takes clothing, household goods, and small furniture. Decluttering can help your movers load faster—and might even lower your final bill.

Bonus Tip: Schedule large-item pickups early—Milwaukee nonprofits fill their pickup slots quickly, especially during the summer months.

Tip 3: Coordinate Your Move With the HOA or Property Manager

Though it’s tempting to get an early start, some HOAs and residential rental properties have specific hours when movers are allowed. Generally, you must be quiet between 9 pm and 7 am in Milwaukee, according to the city's noise ordinances, but your new neighborhood may have further restrictions. Use the contact information for council members on Milwaukee's city page to connect with your neighborhood’s association and see what rules apply.

Bonus tip: Before moving day, confirm with your property manager whether you’ll need to reserve an elevator or loading area—some Milwaukee properties require it and may fine you if you don’t.
