The Military Move Guide

Received a PCS? Here's help using the DPS for your PPM aka DITY move so you can have a little R&R.

Get Moving

Military Moving Labor

Making a PPM? (For civilians: a personally procured move.) Instead of spending your entire allocation on a Full Service Moving company, keep costs low by booking moving labor crews to load up at your current base or off-base housing and unload at your new assignment. It's usually hundreds of dollars cheaper to hire the muscle, then rent a truck or reserve a moving container.

PCS - Military Relocation Orders

Your Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders could be sending you across the country, maybe even overseas. Depending on your next station of duty (or retirement destination, congratulations!), your transportation allowances will vary. As you prepare for your PPM/DITY Move, you'll want to make sure you have a complete PCS checklist. You'll also want to make sure you understand which entitlements apply to your situation so you can more easily budget for your move.

The Perfect Personally Procured Move (PPM, formerly the DITY Move)

Choosing to make a Personally Procured Move (aka DITY Move) can help you stay in control of your belongings and end up saving you money, effectively lowering the total costs hitting your transportation allowances budget. The perfect PPM is a Hybrid™ Move: hiring movers to load and unload, but then renting a truck or moving container separately. A Hybrid™ Move is usually a few hundred dollars cheaper than hiring a typical Full Service Moving Company.
