Labor-Only vs. The Traditional Move

When most people think of a moving company, they picture a full-service crew that loads, drives, and unloads everything. For in-town moves, this is known as local full-service.

Labor-only moving works differently. You handle the transportation—like a rental truck or PODS container—and we connect you with professional movers to load or unload your stuff.

While labor-only requires a bit more work on your end to coordinate all the details, it’s considerably more affordable.

The Cost of Moving in Contra Costa, CA

In Contra Costa labor-only moving help typically costs between $305.27 and $663.28.

If you’re tackling a smaller job, like unloading a PODS-style container, moving into a storage unit, or just need help with the heavy lifting, you can hire hourly moving labor for around $87.42 an hour.

Find a lower price for the same move? We’ll match it—because making your move easier and more affordable in Contra Costa is what we’re here for.

The Cost of Labor-Only vs. Local-Full Service

Even after factoring in the cost of a rental truck, gas, and supplies, labor-only moving usually costs less than half of what you’d pay for local full-service. Full-service is definitely more convenient—but that convenience comes at a price.

Patrick and Justin were prompt, hardworking and excellent communicators over the course of a tricky moving job. They made a ridiculous amount of furniture and boxes fit in a 16' Pods container, and were super careful with our stuff.

The movers were prompt, friendly and professional. Got down to business and took care to move my heavy furniture up the stairs without scuffing the new paint, banisters or new flooring. 100% would use again.

The movers were friendly, respectful, and hardworking. They were knowledgeable about packing our truck and strapping everything down, and nothing was damaged during our move. Only downside was that I did not get a confirmation phone call the day before, and they were late arriving to our home, but besides those two things I highly recommend Square-One. I would use them again.

I’d originally booked with the company and the day before they were supposed to come they declined the job which very much angered me. So I went with this company and I couldn’t be happier with them. The two gentleman that showed up were extremely professional very knowledgeable and they packed my moving pod with not even an inch to spare. They were so excellent. I highly recommend this company.

Not only were they respectful of our belongings, they were also friendly and easy to work with. Thank you both!

The team was friendly and did a great job. They loaded our Pods for an interstate move, and even the moving crew who unloaded our Pods at our destination commented on what a great job they did. Would use again for Pods container loading - they definitely know what they’re doing. For reference, we had 4 guys and it took 4.75 hours to fill 2 16-ft. Containers.
