Dave Weissman and his helper from Ogre Man Movers, LLC came to my house on 2/23/14 to load my truck on time.
I also requested them to bring clean shoes, because I had to clean my carpets before their arrival because I needed to leave immediately after, in a timely manner complete the drive to WI, and to catch a plane once I arrived there (to come back for the other car.)
Prior to Dave's arrival, I had measured out all of the furniture to make sure that I had rented the correct size of truck. (I still have my measurements and drawings on graph paper) I showed Dave how I wanted the truck loaded to make sure there was adequate room. I said I wanted it packed tight. I have done many moves myself, and have successfully loaded my own trucks by myself as well, and had no damage on my previous moves.
Dave hardly looked at the drawing because he let me know his way was better. Dave & assistant began to pack the truck, while I was cleaning the house and packing a few last boxes. I came out to see if there was anything they needed my help with, and assisted when necessary. During the packing of the truck, Dave had a sour attitude toward me and proceeded to tell me how little I knew about packing a truck. When I came out the last time, Dave informs me that it all was not going to fit! Here are the items he said would not fit into the truck: Designer Baby high chair, chain saw, (High end)exercise bike, Dining chairs, my queen size bed, shelves, black electronics cabinet, baby's walker, jumper, and exersaucer, vacuum, shampooer, big plastic wagon, adirondack chairs & little table, triwheel stroller, ottoman, turtle sandbox, microwave, 3 large boxes, child's little plastic kitchen, child's yellow table, crutches, ladder, designer bedroom mirror, Christmas tree, rocker/glider, child's tunnel tent, blue hydraulic car jack, base to the dining room table.
Telling me it wasn't going to fit was extremely stressful for me and I had to call my son to tell him, I didn't know what to do, because the rental place was closed and this meant an unloading and reloading of another truck?!?!?
Dave then said, "Hey I know you need to get going and can't leave this stuff here, so I would be glad to throw this stuff in the back of my truck for you".
My son told me to go back to the truck rental to get a bigger truck, which would have been the next morning.
I went into the house just after Dave had left and found that all of a sudden my clean cream colored carpets were BLACK on the stair landings! I then called Hireahelper back to find someone to come to me and unload the truck that Ogre Man loaded. The new Moving Service came to unload my truck on the evening of 2/23/2014. In order to get a new truck, Budget said I had to unload the truck, drive it back to trade it for the bigger one. The new mover told me when they arrived that they believed that all of my stuff WOULD FIT into the 16' truck I already had, and that it would be unnecessary for me to go back to get the larger one. The Moving Service said that it would be a mistake to get the bigger one bc it would take more gas and that there would be more damage from having too much extra space in there. They agreed to unload the truck, and repack it, and if for any reason it didn't fit, they were willing to unload it again for me to get the bigger truck (That's how sure he was that it would all fit).
The Moving Service took pictures as they unloaded the truck filled with huge empty void spaces that could have been packed better, and they had already damaged the washer, dryer, and a nice gilded painting by jamming the headboard end into it. They also had it positioned where it fell forward and the mattress fell down onto the painting box! The moving service successfully unpacked and repacked everything into the 16' truck except for a ladder and a cooler!
As a result of Dave's unprofessional manner, and not getting the job done, I lost over $500.00 when I had to change my missed flight, plus I had to hire a Moving Service @ $270.00 to unpack and repack my truck! I want a refund from Ogre Man's moving services and I guarantee I will be posting a review about this! (Hireahelper question to me, "Did you contact your service provider?" I have not re-contacted Dave because he said he was the owner and I do not want to speak to that man! He was not very nice to me and acted unprofessionally toward me. When I tried to talk to him while he was on the job he talked over me nonstop! I need you to speak to him on my behalf because he does not listen to me.

Brilliant, from beginning to end. OK, they were a little late but they were coming from another job and hit LA traffic. They were great about loading and unloading the truck, packed the truck well, definitely went the extra mile. Hefted everything up one flight of stairs and some stuff up two flights of stairs. No complaints, no bad attitude, even though it was their third move of the day! Friendly, personable, helpful, took direction of where I wanted everything to go. Very respectful of my property, careful not to bump in to walls, did not damage anything. They worked hard and finished the job within the time given. All in all, they did an excellent job and I would absolutely hire them again.

This is our second time using "HireAHelper". The first time was when we unloaded a very large Pod, which contained many antiques, and irreplaceable breakables. In the past we always used a Main line moving Co., and actually, the men that came out with Hire a Helper far exceeded our expectations. So now, it's time to move my mom to Ohio from CA. , and so we hired them again, really hoping but not having high expectations, as what are the chances... of second time having fantastic HELP? Wow! These men were also the Best out there! Courteous, strong, great attitude, efficient, and organized, and well trained!
We strongly recommend them, and it's the Best way of getting the job done right!

It came to our attention that upon receiving our pod, the movers did not take every measure to ensure our belongings would not be damaged during our cross country move. They were difficult to get a hold of once we needed to contact them regarding the damage.

What can a customer expect after booking with you?
We provide a follow up call after booking, we go over the job details with you, answer any questions you may have in preparation for your move and offer any additional advice on packing items and what's needed for a safe and speedy move.
What can a customer expect on moving day if they hire you?
We provide a phone call when en route to your move and as soon as we get to your location we do a walk thru to see what's being moved. We then start to wrap and protect items if we are loading, and get them into your truck or Storage container as safely and timely as possible. If its an unload, we do a walk thru to see the lay out of your home and ask where you want your belongings and then unload and unwrap your items safely and speedy. In both cases feel free to ask us to re arrange any of your items.
How should a customer prepare for moving day?
To be best prepared to save time and money, everything should be packed and wrapped and ready for your move. However, we understand moving is quite overwhelming and can be a lot to deal with, in which case, were happy to come in and pack your entire household up, bring supplies such as boxes, tape, blankets, everything needed for a successful move. Then just sit back, put your feet up and let us take care of everything from start to finish.
What types of moves have you handled?
We have been in this industry for over 15 years and have seen and done it all. We do everything from nationwide cross country moves, to office moves, residential home moves, white glove services for art and sculptures, to grand and upright pianos, vehicle and motorcycle deliveries, as well as animal delivery and everything single thing in between. There is not a single thing we haven't encountered and are prepared for everything we come across.

What training do you provide your crew members?
What makes us special is that we only hire experienced movers with a minimum of 5 years moving experience, the average is 7 to 10 years. What that means, is that very little training if any is needed, but provided when necessary to meet our standards for quality. Experience and knowledge is shared between movers on every job so our team continues to get stronger and more knowledgeable with every job.
