I am taking the time in my busy schedule to write this review as I feel Mike and Billy deserve it! I was having to move my 95 year old grandmother from her home. She had a lot of antiques and delicate items. While I accounted for a normal move, I did not account for a "delicate" move of her items. Mike and Billy knew exactly how to handle, carry and pack her items so as to assure the perfect arrival at their destination. I am writing this review after I have arrived and I must say there was not one of these precious items broken or damaged in any way. Mike and Billy took the time, while continually working with no breaks, to care of each item as they loaded our U-haul. They knew what they were doing as well they were very respectful of my pocket book and my time. I would highly recommend both of them for your next move, as they did an outstanding job for my grandmother and myself..Thank you Mike and Billy for your hard work and for you heart and caring for my grandmothers precious items!!!

These guys were tremendous. Michael and his crew were on time, well prepared, hard working and friendly -- I couldn't have asked for better helpers.

It was a difficult move-in, with many steps to climb just to get to the stairwell, then up 2-1/2 flights of stairs. They didn't complain at all and worked at a nice pace. They were very careful and respectful of all my property.

I would definitely use them again. Highly recommended!

I picked Save U $$$ because of their good reviews. I was thoroughly disappointed.

After I scheduled the movers, Mike (the owner) contacted me and said he had another job scheduled for that same Sunday morning and wanted to know if I could move my time to later in the day. I did not have any flexibility with my move time due to truck rental, etc., and said I would have to get another mover if he was unavailable.

Mike then said he would contact the other customer to see if they could move to the afternoon so that he could accommodate my move. The other customer agreed and we were all set to begin on Sunday morning. Then, I got another call from Mike saying the other customer actually canceled on him and wanted to know if he could come later in the day (around 2:00) so he could go to church first. I again told him this would not work and it was either 9 am or nothing.

Mike was obviously frustrated his other job canceled on him, but said he would be there on Sunday morning as planned.

Although Mike and his helper Kyle showed up on time, Mike was EXTREMELY slow moving. He loaded maybe 5 heavy furniture items from the first stop and was in the truck "staging" the remainder of the time. Myself and the other mover (Kyle) moved everything else down to the truck (boxes, small pieces of furniture, etc etc), while Mike took his time packing. It took 2 hours just to pack a 1 bedroom apartment. My roommate showed up to help and was shocked to see that Mike was just standing around in the truck and moving things around while I was in the apartment hauling things to the truck. There was a lot more talking than working. At one point when we asked him to speed it up, his response was "are you in a hurry?" There just was no sense of urgency to get the job done on Mike's part. It felt like Mike was taking advantage of the hourly rate and intentionally delayed.

I suspect Mike wanted to recoup some of his lost money from the other job canceling on him by prolonging my job. This became even more apparent at the second stop where we packed another one bedroom apartment. When we arrived we found out Mike only brought two homemade handcarts that "broke" and delayed the job even further. They didn't even have the proper equipment. Again Mike hardly lifted a finger and barely came to the apartment to move anything. He stayed on the truck and "arranged" things.

I understand that packing a truck takes some degree of skill so that things aren't damaged, but there is no excuse for one mover and the customers to be physically moving furniture while the other stands around and packs.

They also didn't seem to understand the concept of filling an entire elevator to take a load down. Instead, they would grab one or two items, take it all the way to the truck, pack it up, and then came back up to grab two more things and take them all the way back.

By the time we finally got to the unload spot, again Mike stayed in the truck the bulk of the time and handed things to us, the customers, while we unloaded. It seemed like Mike only wanted to do easy jobs. When he did move things, they were pillows. Mike clearly likes to direct and organize, and not move furniture and boxes.

At the end of the day, we expressed our frustration to Mike who did not listen to our concerns. I told him I would not release payment until I spoke with hireahelper.com (per the contract terms if you release payment, you relinquish your right to dispute the move time with hireahelper.com). Mike walked off in a huff and said "this happens yet again!" Obviously, I was not the first customer who had issues with Mike and I am so perplexed why the reviews are so great on here.

Overall, this was a truly disappointing experience. As someone who has hired many movers in the past, this has been the absolute worst. It would have been more time effective and cheaper to just ask friends to help us move. I didn't imagine I would hire two movers and be working and moving the entire time.

But, it we did not help, the job simply would not have gotten done. What should have taken 4 hours took 6.25, a lot of headache, stress and physical exertion. Don't waste your time.

We were generally satisfied. They arrived on time and kept us informed of when they were arriving. They appeared to work hard the whole time, and spent some additional time, a couple hrs to help finish loading the POD. It was appreciated. One worker appeared more experienced and directed activities of the other. I wouldn't describe them as overly friendly, or unfriendly. Neutral. Business-like.

Interestingly, a few days later we had a friend come over who by chance had worked for Allied Van Lines for many years in his younger days. When he first arrived he looked inside the POD that the HireAHelper folks had worked on and said some it needed to be redone, which he proceeded to do on his own. He felt the original packing wasn't secure or stable enough to withstand damage during travel.

It's just the opinion of another independent person, but thought it was interesting he felt some of the work had to be redone.

Overall, generally satisfied.

Mover's response:
Thank you for the compliment that we worked hard, and stayed longer to do what it took to finish loading your POD!!! Whether or not things needed to be redone to ensure no damages, may have in fact just been the opinion of the other fellow. There has only been a couple of occasion's where things have been damaged in the past, and we have completed about 250 jobs, or so, through Hire A Helper, and we are the #1 rated moving company via Hire A Helper. We didn't get there by having damage's...

The guys were good, even though they damage my washing machine. What sucks is that Hire-A-Helper does not insure their guys against damages their cause.

Mover's response:
We are sorry about the damage's to the front face of your washer that happened on the last thing that we were loading for that day, we definitely paid for the damages ourselves and don't see how we could have handled it any differently... Sorry about that, and that is the first time in 4 1/2 years that we have ever damaged anything through out the over 300 jobs that we have done!!!

Yes, they did what was expected but, I didn't think I
would I would be paying for on the job training.
Michael had to guide his helper Billy EVERY step which
slowed them up and after 3 hours the job still
wasn't completed but I wasn't going to continue paying
for this on the job training show. I asked Michael if this was Billies first day on the job, he said no but from what we saw it sure looked like it. My loaders got the truck
loaded in 3 hours and I wasn't pleased it wasn't
completed for unloading in 3 hours to unload it all.
If Michael had of brought a helper who knew what he was doing the job would of been done in a timely manner. Billy was clueless on how to carry anything and didn't know where to put boxes that were clearly marked with the room.
I'm finding boxes in the wrong rooms. Just annoying
that I paid $296 for a job that wasn't done how it should of been and not completed in a timely manner. I've moved enough to know that unloading always goes faster than loading. I would recommend Michael if he brought a helper who knew what to do! This experience with them was stressful for me.

Mover's response:
All I can simply say is this... I have done allot of jobs with Billy, and just because I was communicating with him on what to watch out for throughout the coarse of the job does not mean that he didn't know what he was doing... And the fact that your entry to the front door was one of the toughest one's that I have done in the 4 1/2 years of being a service provider on Hire A Helper, had allot to do with the amount of time that it took to unload your 27' Penske truck, with a SHORT/VERY STEEP RA

Michael and Ryan were superb. They were a little late due to traffic, but not a problem. They took care of my job and stayed until it was done. I had the blankets and tape and they used them well. WHen there was some pre-existing damage, they pointed it out to me to make sure I knew. I would send them to any friends without hesitations!

•Were they on time? No. They got lost
•Were they prepared for the job? Yes
•Did they work hard? Yes
•Were they respectful of your property and goods? Yes
•Would you use them again? Yes.

Senior loader knew his stuff. Helper did okay, but spent too much time on personal calls and not following instrutions. When paying by the hour, efficientcy and coordiation is important.

That being said, I would use this team again. I would think in a few more jobs, there would be both for this team.

The 2 guys arrived right in time ready to work. They did an awesome job- especially since it was one of the hottest days! They were very careful with my furniture & boxes and moved everything with ease. I was amazed on how fast & easy it was. I would use this service again and will!
